The most common problem is not the switch but the connector to the switch having a wire broken inside the insulator of the wire, use a 12 volt test light to check this. the switch is located at the top of the arm the brake pedal is attached to, u will need to remove the panel under the dash to see it, the switch is mounted on a pin and held on that pin by spring retainer clip.

Shift lever lock won't release when brake pedal is

do the brake lights work? most of the time the problem is a broken wire at the brake light switch under the dash on the brake pedal. the ECM does not see the signal from the switch so it won't allow the car to shift from park.

I bought a new stop light switch to replace the old one that went out on my 1990 Lincoln Town Car. How do you replace it?

The Stop Light Switch is located by the Brake Pedal arm, it is usually held in with a screw or nut, just unplug the electrical connector, remove the nut or screw and install the new one and tighten and plug everything back up.

I have a 1995 towncar. The brake light is not working. We changed the bulb but it still doesnt work.Someone told me it could be a bad socket. Is that true? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If your missing only 1 brake light, then the switch and fuse are ok,
You need to test the wire right before the socket with a test light to verify you have power to socket,But yes sockets go bad
