There is a "steering Wheel position sensor" ($80) that most likely is sending that signal, and most likely in error.Especially, if the SSS message is intermittent. (One day it's on, next it's off).
If you "feel" a different ride, such as pulling to one side or the other or brakes grabbing, then yes, the vehicle needs servicing.
Don't let the service people tell you to inflate your tires (common response).

You can defiantly convert from air to springs. I would recommend going to strutmasters.com and taking a look at our conversion kits. these convert you from the airbag to a powder coated American made steel coil spring that is guaranteed to last the life of the car. The kits have everything you need to convert from air to coil springs. I posted the link to the land rover section of the website so you can take a look.

Normal operation is for the pump to run for a few seconds every time the vehicle is started. After this, the level sensor will determine whether or not the pump should run. Sounds like the sensor is not activating the pump.
