Question about 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
I've an automatic. sometimes when i put the car into reverse, it doesn't respond immediately. when i does, it jerks HARD! also delays for a while when changing from 1st to 2nd - and it skips
Usually its a sign of worned or clog transmission or faulty ECM transmission module, slipping and delaying when change gears usually common to high mileage vehicle. Beside spending big buck servicing the transmission, I would first try to have the transmission flush and filter change and see if that would make a different. On the module, there really no way of testing it, I don't know of any place offer a bench test on the unit, if they do it would cost you 75-100 bucks by the time you do all the driving and pay shipping and handling which you be better of and buy a used replacement for the same price. My personal opinion on all domestic vechicle to have transmission flush every 75k on hard driving/pulling and 100k on normal driving. On foreign cars will be 100k. Know days it not even worth having it rebuilt, you can probably locate a used one from a junk yard for 300-500 bucks which rebuilt will cost you same amount or more; ebay also has some great deals on all the parts you need.

Sounds like you may have a plugged transmission filter, I would change that first.
If that doesn't work you will need to check fluid pressures and run a diagnostic scan to diagnose further.
