the trouble code means that the oxygen sensor is reading that your catalytic converter is no longer operating properly. Either the oxygen sensor(s) is faulty and is giving an incorrect reading or the catalytic converter is faulty. You should have a flow test performed on the cataytic converter to ensure it is performing properly. You can also check your oxygen sensor(s) before replacing them

The Catalytic converter, perhaps the O2 sensor right before it is faulty? Does the catalytic converter rattle if shaken? They shouldn't.
If they are faulty you need to replace them.

Replace your oxygen sensor furtherst down the exhaust pipe. They just screw in and out and have a wire to disconnect. takes 10 minutes to do.

My 1996 ford probe se has the check engine light on. I have been driving it around for almost 2 years with no issues. What could be the problem? My car has 230000 miles on it as of right now.

You will need to have a OBD II scanner hooked up to it to read the Trouble Code, you can go to Autozone and they will do it for free.

Looking for a picture of the engine of a 1996 ford probe

no, if the oil pressure is eratic the first thing i would check is the oil pump. unless lots of black smoke is coming out the tail pipe. in that case your engine seals are bad and you will have to do a compleate rebuild on the engine.

sometimes my 1996 ford probe has problems starting - have to try several times and most times it just starts without problems. it doesn't matter whether it has been driven or just sits for days. i've had starter and starter solonoid replaced. battery is fine. it runs perfect though.

There should be one right on the inside of the engine compartment for engine issues. For other issues...get Mitchell or Chiltons.
