Question about 1994 Lincoln Town Car
Most common cause of backfiring is a bad cap, rotor or wires...what happens is that spark intended for one cylinder is allowed to cross to the incorrect one. A bad intake valve, weak/broken valve spring or a worn cam lobe can also cause this as can a radical departure from normal engine timing but those items are far less frequent. You will need to check those items to find where the problem is.
