No heat on a 2003 galant. Could hear grinding

No heat. Could hear grinding when i went back and forth from cold to hot and now that has stopped along with my heat. I feel like it is the valve that stuck or broke. Does anyone know how to fix that

Call dealer service rep explain noise and I'll bet he suggests your heater control valve motor has failed. I just replaced mine 3 months ago. Same sympthoms. I could only get motor from dealer. and Had someone in my area who specializes in auto a/c work install it. It came out to be about $300. But you have to have heat!

Galant door wont open for my heat

I'm assuming you mean the door under the dash that controls your heat. I had the exact same problem, yes it was the heater control valve, the repair was 285.00 approx 3 years ago. The tech that replaced it told me it is a common problem for the Galant. He said that if you keep your temp selector on either all hot or all cold that it keeps constant pressure on the plastic gear teeth in the valve. As they break off one by one you begin to hear that clicking noise as the dont catch. When you finally break off the last one it stops working.

According to him if you always leave the dial at least one notch from fully hot or fully cold you will not experience a failure of the switch. I have followed his advise and have had no further problems.

As for is it easily fixed.....no, the heater control valve needs to be replaced. I looked into doing it myself but thought better of it. Its buried deep in the dash and most of the passenger side must be removed and I still couldn't figure out how to get it out.

I think it ended up costing me about 300 dollars to get it fixed by the shop.

I think I would just keep right on going until it quits.

A thermostat that is stuck open will cause there to be no heat. If its closed is when you will run hot or overheat.

CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY 2003 HEATER PROBLEM

Have you checked the coolant level? If it's low, it will result in diminished heat, and could be the problem.
