Hi,
It may sound to you but it is not, in this site when you work with a tech all communications between both you can not been seen by anyone other than you two tell the matter is resolved. Now you may get answer sound opposite to another and that is not wrong as you may know repairing a car as a doctor trying to find out why young child not doing well so they start something called elimination process, and you may get one that can fix it in three steps another in two and so on… Now I did not see any activities in this post other than your question so I am going to give you few steps and you can apply anyone that you did not consider, Check the heat sensors, usually two under each jet, Injectors (cleaning), Drain water from Diesel lines, Change filters, adjust pumps, check the repair cods on the system and reset it. Let me know if any of these can help and if you need further clarifications. We are sorry that you may think that we are slow that may be true but the system was implemented in a way that you get as much inputs from different techs that not effected by other posts. Please see that you rate my service to be able to continue the service for others…God bless

How do i change the fuel filter on a 1992 Ford F 250 7.3 Liter diesel.

fuel filter problems come in slowly as in loss of power. It it just died and will not start I would be looking elsewhere for the problem. A good place to start would be the fault codes to check for cam/crank position sensor faults, immobiliser operation, timing belt condition. If you ran the fuel too low it may have air in the system that will have to be bled out. Best have an accredited diesel shop specialist look at it.

1991 f 350 wont stay running7.3 deisel new injecters new glow plugs new fuel filter have to put gas on a rag and cover intake starts but u put into gear and dies

Many things to check. Wonder if this work was done to alleviate problem or problem was from doing the work.

Putting gas fumes in a 21:1 compression cylinder is sure way to ruin engine.

2 possible problems are losing your diesel fuel draw from an air leak in the fuel lines and an inoperative glow plug timer.

When you change a fuel filter you lose the vacuum lock that is in the fuel lines. Some mechanics add fuel to the new filter to remove some of the air and promote fuel draw. The O rings on the injector lines are a special type which resists petroleum products. Using cheap O rings will cause problems.

Glow plug timer-there is a power Relay to the timer and the timer itself is a type of Relay. You should hear clicking noise and lights should dim as timer provides power to the glow plugs.

Other things to check would be the Vacuum pump as Diesels work differently than gas engines and require a pump to supply Vacuum. Covering the intake suggests engine needs a Vacuum draw.

Weak fuel pump. Too weak to pressurize or draw fuel. Can be measured with pressure gauges.

Really bad rings could also cause symptoms.

Would be interested knowing what proved to be wrong.

Fuel filter replacement 7.3 liter diesel

I'm not too uppety-up on diesels but I have changed a few. My description is pretty basic.
BEFORE doing anything, make sure you have at least a quart (or more) of FRESH CLEAN diesel in separate container.
Locating the filter is usually in site when opening hood and fairly easy to get to. The ones I've done, look simular to a spin on oil filter. Usually there is a valve on the bottom to drain fuel and/or water out out of the filter.
First, drain fuel out of filter, may need a hose and a catch pan so is not to make too much of a mess.
Second, spin old filter off.
Third, take your fresh clean diesel and pour it in the new filter up to being full but not running over, make sure you wet the o-ring with clean diesel also.
Fourth, spin new filter in place.
Fifth, turn ignition key to on for at least 10 seconds or more, NOT starting the engine. You should hear a pulsing sound, that's the pump priming the new filter, can't have any trapped air in system. If there is too much trapped air the engined will not start or stay running. This has worked for me quite a few times but if you want more information go to http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/index.php and put your question in the search box in the forums section. Hope this helps.

Air in fuel line. changed all the filters. put a new in-line filter before the fuel pump. engine runs for a few miles and then dies. i have to bleed the air out of the fuel pump and then it will start and...

I'm a little confused. You changed all the fuel filters? How many do you have? If you have a late model vehicle, then your fuel pump is in the fuel tank. How did you put an in line filter before the pump. Is your vehicle gas or diesel?

I have a ford focus 1.8 diesel x reg 1999 girlfreind put petrol in it about 3weeks ago we have drained it all re fueled it and it started and run but now it wount start

poss the fuel filter has petrol in it,replace filter, turn engine over with fuel line unattached to clear lines then fire up,should be fine.you may hve a hot start problem for awhile but fill up with diesel at 1/2 tank to dilute any petrol left.in 32 years in the trade i have put petrol in so many diesel cars, and as long as it starts, keep it running, and start only when cold ish.

My 84 ford f250 6.9 diesel. Starts and then dies and wont start.

could have a bad fuel transfer pump ( block mounted) or air getting into fuel system. This could be caused by a pin hole in the fuel lines ( supply or return) have someone crank it over for you while you press the shrader valeve on the fuel filter housing , see if you are getting fuel or air. Could also be an injection pump problem. Best thing would be to have it checked by a qualified diesel mechanic, as this could be caused by many different things. Kinda costly to throw parts at it on a guess without proper testing

Ive a Ford F-250 diesel 2001 , it was no power and Idid put a new fuel filter and a new air filter but still no power, now what can I do about thes problem

This is caused by a simple problem This engine has two fuel pumps the one on the side of the block wears out and does not pump enough fuel into the main fuel pump causing it to lose power so replace the fuel pump on the side of the block First. this should cure the problem assuming the engine is in good mechanical condition.

Where and how to change fuel filter on 1996 Ford F350 7.3 turbo disel truck? Is there more than one fuel filter?

Please don't forget to rate!!!!

Diesel Engines The 6.9L and 7.3L diesel engines use a one-piece spin-on fuel filter. Do not add fuel to the new fuel filter. Allow the engine to draw fuel through the filter.
  1. Remove the spin-on filter by unscrewing it counterclockwise with your hands or a strap wrench.
  2. Clean the filter mounting surface.
  3. Coat the gasket or the replacement filter with clean diesel fuel. This helps ensure a good seal.
  4. Tighten the filter by hand until the gasket touches the filter mounting surface.
  5. Tighten the filter an additional 1⁄2 turn. NOTE: After changing the fuel filter, the engine will purge the trapped air as it runs. The engine may run roughly and smoke excessively until the air is cleared from the system.
