I havent tried this on newer dodges but on the older ones you could cycle the key and just count the flasshes of the check engine light....
to do this turn key on, off, on , off, on and start counting you will have pausses betwwent flashes some longer then others this is when the next number begins .... you will get a 2 digit code then a longer pause to start next number

Probably not if the diagostic port is not communicating with a scan tool you may have a power feed problem to the port. I have seen this several times when a fuse is blown that supplies power to the port. It has even been known to turn the check engine light on just bc the fuse was out.

How do I manually retrieve a trouble code without scan tool for a 1997 Plymouth Voyager

Try this Turn the key on ( don not try to start), turn the key off, turn the key on, turn the key off, turn the key on and leave it on. If the check engine light starts to flash start counting the number of flashes. Those will be the codes. For about $50 you can by a code reader which will give you OBDII codes which may make it easier to figure out the problem. Post the codes and we'll see what we can figure out. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

When i have the car off with key on, indicator reads out "low oil pressure" if i drive this vehicle like this, can it harm the engine? the "check engine" light is on, i've already...

Without the engine running there is no oil pressure the oil pump is driven by the engine. Therefore with the engine turned off and the key turned to the on position, there is no pressure to read. If the check engine light is on with the engine running, you can have it scanned to determine which system needs attention. Most larger parts stores will scan for free but you need to buy a chilton or haynes manual for code meanings, individual component tests, and repair instructions.. (manuals are usually under $30)

Hi my chevy venture has always engine check light whenever i start and somthing not right. Any idea to solve this problem? what are the symptons of this problem?

to reset engine warning light simply turn key on without starting slowly depress gas pedal to floor 3 times in about 5seconds wait 15sec then shut off key...this is in the owners manual under engine check warning light.but also may want to have someone plug a obd2 code reader into the plug under center of dash under steerind wheel....code readers cost around $100 at canadian tire or other such part stores..this reader will tell you what trouble codes if any are present in your vehicles computer.hope this helps..

My 94 jeep loaps and then backfires out the tail pipe can you solve

Power train control module controls the drivetrain. If you can get a code from the computer it would go a long way diagnosing wether its an engine malfunction or computer issue. To get the codes bring a pen & piece of paper out to the car, turn the key to the run position (not start but when all the dash lights come on) then off then run then off then run (three times in the on position, after you have turned the ke on then off 3 times on then leave the key in the on position and watch the check engine light. It will flash a code to you for example check engine light turns on then off 1 time with a long pause then the light flashes three times then another pause this would be the #13 code , most start with this code to tell you that it is checking codes. Just count the # of flashes (from the check engine light) & that is the first # of the code it will pause then flash again & that is the second # of the code. Flash 5 times pause then 5 more flashes is the # 55, & that is the last code you get to indicate all codes have been displayed, so key on then off then on then off then on & watch the check engine light count the flashes write down that # when it pauses then count the next number of flashes until the pause & that is your trouble cod they are 2 # codes & usually 13 is the first code flashed & the # 55 is the code that lets you know it is done, all the 2 digit codes in between are trouble codes & can be found in a chiltons or haynes service manual or search the web for chrysler trouble or computer codes.

1997 dodge dakota dies periodically

Check for any stored codes, on 97 models you may have to turn on the key without starting the engine, do this 5 times in rapid order then stop with the key in the on position without starting the car.

The service engine soon light will blink

Count the number of blinks

This will be the begining of the code test and the actual code numbers and finally a code number stating the test is over.

Look up the codes in the haynes repair manual and it will lead you in the right direction for any parts that have thrown an error code.

Can I get the codes by using my on/off ignition switch or do I have to use a reader

To query and OBD-I-era computer for these codes, put the key in the ignition and turn the key to run (not start), then off, then run, then off, then run (that's 3 runs and 2 offs). Leave the key in the run position.

The check engine light will turn on for a few seconds, then turn off, then (sometimes after 20-30 seconds) start flashing. The flashes are counting out 2-digit trouble codes. Fast flashes count up each digit, with a longer pause between digits. On TJ's with a digital odometer, the code numbers are printed on the odometer in addition to flashing the check engine light. 55 indicates the end of all codes. Once you've got your code list, consult the table below to see what they mean.

OBD-II information is more complex, so the codes for 1998 and newer Jeeps can't be displayed by flashing the check engine light. However, those vehicles which have digital odometers will display the codes on the odometer. I've verified this personally on a 1999 WJ. For those vehicles without digital odometers, or for anybody who wants an English description rather than just a numeric code, an OBD-II code scanner ($100-300) can be plugged in under the dash. OBD-II codes can be looked up online here.

These codes were taken from the '95 XJ/YJ factory service manual.

I hope help you woth this. Good luck (rated this).

Retrieve fault codes 92 900

Fault codes come from the fuel injection system diagnostic circuitry, which can store up to three faults. They can be read through the check engine light in the dash. You'll need to make a switched test lead with a spade connector on one end for connecting to the test connector. The other end is connected to ground. In 1992 the test connector is located beneath rear seat in sedan, or under the bellows ahead of shifter in convertible. With ignition off and test lead off, connect test lead to ground and test connector pin 2. turn ignition key to ON When Check Engine light comes on, turn test lead switch ON; Check Engine light should immediately go out When Check Engine light flashes ONCE, IMMEDIATELY turn test lead switch OFF Any fault codes will flash through the Check Engine light, with a long flash at beginning and end of each code; code flashes are short flashes, each block of flashes is separated by a longer space. With the engne OFF, the first fault code is that for "No RPM" 1 2 2 3 1, it will look like oooo x xx xx xxx x oooo where o = steady on, x = single flash There are over 20 fault codes, so get yourself a copy of the best source of info on this car: the "Bentley Bible" aka the Saab 900 Official Service Manual, costs about $40 from Amazon 16 valve manual: http://www.amazon.com/Saab-900-Valve-Service-Manual/dp/0837603137 8 valve manual :http://www.amazon.com/Eight-Official-Service-Manual-1981-1988/dp/0837603102 Hope this helps, if it does please give a "thumbs up", thanks Saabreur
