The tranmission wont change gears

The tranmission wont change gears i drop it to change the rear main seal put it back together and now it wont change gears

Rear seat removal


Unfortunately there is no easy fix for your problem. You must remove the engine assembly to access the rear main seal. To remove the engine you must drop the engine, trans, suspension, cradle assembly. Then separate the engine from the trans to get to the seal. Then put is all back together. The book gives over 40 hours for this job.

How to drop a driveshaft on x type jaguar 2002


The rear wheel drive cars can have their driveshafts removed by taking off the bolts where the driveshaft connects to the rear axle. The bolts may have Torx or Star type heads on them.

You would paint the ears of the joints to make sure the joints go back together in the same position as they started if you are seeking to change the U-joints. If you are doing this to change the rear trans seal on an automatic, be aware to check where the seal is installed.

Some seals are installed from the inside out on the tailshaft. Meaning the rear case of the trans must be separated from the main housing. Other more practical designs are accessible form the outside and do not require separation of the tailshaft.

i had the same problem with my toyota estate i had to remove the gearbox and remove the bottom plate then tap the gears with a hammer not to hard untill the gear moved then put it back together and worked fine never did it again and wasnt to hard to move the gear.
hope this helps i tryed rock banging and everything else before i took the gearbox out

no sir, you must drop the whole transmission.. the rear seal is on the back of the motor.

I was told I need a new rear barring and axle seal how do I change it?


You have to pull the cover off the rear end and let the fluid drain. Then there is a single small bolt that holds a pin in for the spider gears. You must remove the bolt, pin and spider gears. Then take the wheel and brake drum off the side you want to change. Once thats off you can push the axle in and a clip should fall off the axle inside the carrier. Then you can pull the axle out exposing the seal and bearing you need to change. Just use a seal pulling tool to pull the old seal out and the bearing is under that. It is pressed in so it can be hard to get out. Lots of times they have to be cut out. To put the new bearing back in just use a hammer and socket that is close to the size of the outter edge of the bearing. If you put the bearing in the freezer overnight it will go in a lot easier. Then tap a new seal in and put everything back together and refill the rear end with GL5 put the posi additive in if you have a posi trac rear end. Hope this helps good luck.

What causes a rear main seal leak on a 92 5.0 lx with 14,000 original miles? i did change to synthetic at 9,000 miles, I got the tranny out and Im about to put in a new seal. i want to make sure it dont...


Believe it or not my boss put synthetic in his lightning f 150 and i put 3 rear main seals in it. a ford tec friend of ours said get that stuff out of there and had not leaked since. He said that synthetic is too slick for some vehicles.

The transmission fluid and filter were changed out now truck just whines and wont go into gear


There should be a dip stick near the rear of the engine compartment with a red handle on it for the transmission. You want to check the trans fluid with engine idling and the trasmission in park. If it's full of fluid and the vehicle won't move you are most likely looking at rebuilding the trans. To change the fluid you have to drop the pan off the tranmission and the filter is inside. The filter just pull out, the new filter will come with a new seal that presses into the the pump housing. DO NOT attempt to change that seal, leave the old one in place, unless it is damaged. Unless you you have the proper tools to replace that seal you will most likely damage the transmission housing trying to remove the old one. Also, if the transmission is low on fluid, where did it go? Is it leaking on the ground? You may want to check the transfer case oil if it's way overfull the seal between the transmission and transfer case is bad and the trany fluid is leaking into the transfer case. You may want to change the transfer case oil too, they both take Dexron III fluid. Good luck!

Engine oil leak


Big job....
You have to drop the motor and tranny out as one unit. It comes out the bottom.
Once you have it out, it's pretty straight forward, seperate the two, change the seal, reassenble, put the power unit (motor and tranny) back into the car.

That's the simplified version of it, but that the overall idea of how you have to do it.
