Question about 2001 Audi A6

Car has 103,000 miles, the timing belt and water pump will be serviced. Does the valve seals all have to be re done as well?

Not unless a leakdown check shows them to be leaking. It's not a normal wear and tear replacement item.

Cam shaft seal gone in a golf 1.9 diesel engine


This will require the removal of the timing belt and the pinning of the injector pump to maintain pump timing. This engine is an interference engine and valve damage will occur if not done correctly. As there is no belt replacement period specified for the belt but industry standard is 60.000 miles so with a leaking seal ( oil destroys rubber belts) it would be prudent to consider a new belt, adjustment pulley and crank shaft seal as well. Have the job done by an accredited shop conversant with your vehicle .

I just bought 2004 mitsubishi with 113,000 miles on it. owner said he hasn't done much if any maintenance on it. what should I have replaced on it?

It is a belt! check the water pump yourself. Look for leaks, there is a drain hole at the bottom of the pump and if there is any sign of water there the seal is leaking. Try move the pump pulley around to check for wear in the bearings and listen for strange noises - take a long screwdriver, place the end of the blade on the pump and put you rae to the handle, this will work like a stethoscope and relay any noises in the pump to your ear.

After how many miles should the timing belt be changed


The timing belt replacement interval for your 3.5L engine is every 120,000 miles. I would also replace the water pump, the tensioner and idler pullies, and the cam and crankshaft front seals at the same time. All of these components will also have 120,000 miles on them and they will not last another 120K. Failure of any of these components will result in the timing belt having to be replaced again and/or severe engine damage.

it is VERY unlikely that a seven year old car would need that much done to it, unless it had 200,000 or more miles on it. New oil should be the color of honey, not dark brown. That's the easy check.

I have a '98 Toyota Sienna with 54,000 miles on it and I was wondering when I should have the timing belt replaced? Also, I have heard that it is a good idea to replace the water pump with the timing...


Scheduled Maintenance Services, for most Cars, has to be done at 30K, 60K, and 90K. Toyota recommend to replace the timing belt at 90K Service.
If you wait, one of two things could happen: Nothing, or the belt could break and you would be out thousands to repair the engine instead of a $400 hundred to replace just the belt. If it breaks, there will be damage done to the valves and various other internal components, which will not covered under warranty. The problem is that the Dealer would charge you between $700-$800 because they would also replace the water pump at the same time. Or you can buy the timing belt and change it by your self. To do so, you nee the Haynes Repair Manual specific for your car, or another equivalent manual.
To be safe, have the timing belt changed before the 95k mile mark ...... AND have the water pump replaced with a NEW one.

YOUR TIMING BELT FOR THE 3.2 ENGINE NEED TO BE CHANGED AT 90000 MILES. THE 3.5RL IS 105000 MILES

Water pump and beyond


well at 86,000 miles ive never replaced a tensioner or idler pully on a subaru maybe at 120,000 or more, it is more time to replace the crank seal and the cam seals and then the price of the pullys is about that 450.00 but dont think pullys were needed at this time, the timing belt is a no brainer got to replace, you dont know if coolant got to belt it could weaken. but the waterpump ,belt and seals and t-stant is all that should of been done,well now your good with pullys for100,000miles. good luck.

It is recomended to replace timing belt between 70,000 and 90,000 miles.
