Two things:
One:
The cylinder tumblers need lubrication. temporary fix, use WD40 or Liquid Wrench on the key. Insert wet key into ignition and work it. You may have to spray 2 or 3 times. It will un-freeze.
Later, clean off as much WD40 as you can and use a graphite (powder) lubricant (key maker sells it or may apply it free if you buy a spare key).

Two:
The steering wheel may be "binding" on the ignition switch.
Turn steering wheel in either direction to see if it will free the ignition switch.

The lock cylinder is bad, a locksmith or the dealer will need to check it.

yes you can, 1991 Dodge Dynasty Ignition Switch

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Tamper-proof Torx driver
  • Ignition key
Instructions
    • 1 Remove the plastic cover from the steering column. The cover is two pieces held together by screws that thread through the bottom piece of plastic into the top piece. Remove the screws and pull the cover off. This exposes the large square ignition switch. The key cylinder connects to the ignition switch.
    • 2 Remove the tamper-proof Torx screws that secure the ignition to the steering column using a tamper-proof Torx driver. You can get this type of Torx driver from your local auto part store.
    • 3 Pull the wiring harness out of the ignition switch.
    • 4 Place the ignition key into the cylinder and turn it onto the auxiliary position. Push the metal pin on the ignition switch in using a screwdriver and slide the ignition cylinder half way out of the ignition switch. Turn the key to the off position and slide the cylinder all the way out of the ignition switch.
    • 5 Place the key into the new cylinder, slide the cylinder into the ignition switch half way. Turn the key to the auxiliary position and slide the cylinder in the rest of the way. Remove the key from the cylinder.
    • 6 Press the wiring harness onto the ignition switch.
    • 7 Secure the switch to the steering column using the tamper-proof Torx driver.
    • 8 Place the covers back onto the steering column and secure them using the screwdriver.

What is wrong with my ignition?

Maybe the ignition lock that was "fixed" actually needed to be replaced. Also, why would "fixing" the ignition lock require a new key?

I have a 2003 gran prix gt and my ignition will only turn half way back when i turn the key off. i have to wiggle it to get the key out. you can also start the car without the key in the ignition. what...

Could be a problem with the cable to the shifter. The shifter is supposed to be in park to lock the ignition switch and remove the key.
Could also be something jammed in the lock cylinder.

The Key won't turn all the way. It only turns half-way and will not turn the full rotation to ignite the starter in order to start the vehicle. Please help me!!!

The final quarter turn of the key engages the steering lock. So while inserting your key, at position it gets stuck turn the steering left-right(to & fro) to loosen the locking pin such that now the key is free to turn the ignition. Oiling the steering locking pin would help too...........sodeep
