IT is the same code P0442 Small evap leak detected. But another thing that is happening with this 2000 Ford Tauras 3.0 DOHC VIN: S is that every morning it putters! (Sounds like the engine isn't getting enough fuel, kinda like it wants to stall.) Oh and to mention this car has 168,000 miles on it. Someone please help. As you can see from my original complaint this is a real PROBLEM.. Please help or suggest what other common problems with evap system.

Check your PCV valve and the vacuum hose that go to the intake manifold for leaks.

Just because the light is back on, doent mean its the same thing. thats a lot of money spent on just those problems. (WAY TOO MUCH) Take it back and have them ck it again, or find a shop that knows what they are doing.

If i dont hear the air pressure when i take off my gas cap, what does that indicate, 2000 ford expedition

Absolutely nothing

There is only 2 lbs or less & your won't hear it

There is a vent solenoid valve that opens when you
fill the tank

Tank pressure is actually measured in Hg inches of mercury

I wouldn't replace the plugs, just yet. This sounds like the vent solenoid. They are usually around the fuel tank and sometimes located on the charcoal canister, Which I believe is where yours is. Test it with 12 volts it should click. if it doesn't then replace this. On newer cars like yours, when the vent or purge solenoids malfunction, they will pop an 02 code. If the solenoid clicks then check the wires right at the plug . they tend to break there. And the gasket your looking for is the intake manifold gasket. And looking for the solenoid, look under the emissions and EVAP systems.

You've already eliminated the spark plug & wireset, distributor cap & rotor.
Sounds like your car needs a tune-up, specifically, the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve, and/of the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve.

Components checked/replaced during a tune-up are:
air filter
motor oil
motor oil filter
breather filter
fuel filter(s)
fuel strainer
PCV valve
EGR valve
spark plugs
spark plug wires
ECM or distributor cap & rotor
cabin air filter
transmission oil filter
transmission oil
engine coolant
check all vacuum hoses and lines

Troubleshooting the no-start condition - from the 1990 Mitsu Mighty Max Repair Manual:

Priority Action Part Type -- Cause
1 Inspect Battery -- Battery Discharged or Faulty.
2 Inspect Battery Cable -- Corroded, Broken, Shorted or Poorly Connected Battery Cable.
3 Inspect Distributor Cap -- Distributor Cap Cracked or Burned.

5 Inspect Ignition Coil -- Faulty Ignition Coil.
6 Inspect Wireset -- Worn, Damaged or Faulty Spark Plug Wire(s).
7 Inspect Spark Plug -- Incorrectly Gapped or Fouled Spark Plug(s).
8 Inspect Starter -- Starter Motor Faulty.

I have 2000 ford contour my engine light came on i took my car and got a reading which said failed canister vent solenoid. what does that mean. Is it serious

The solenoid is for an emissions device called an evaporative loss canister. It would probably not affect how the engine performs but it would have to be replaced to pass a smog test.

Well first off you need to put Motorcraft spark plugs in your vehicle, and it sounds like you have a bad coil..Take it to autozone, or Advanced Discount..depending on your location, an they can scan it for free. An then you will know what direction to go in.. Goodluck..

2000 ford windstar gas smell on the inside only no gas leaks already changed the fuel filter the pcv valve is fine as well .where is the smell coming from? and why is it only on the inside and u can't...

Check and see if you have any gas on the ground after you park your car. Check around the gas tank and gas cap. It's possible that the fuel pump (which is in the gas tank) has hoses that may be leaking. If this is a slight leak, it might only manifest itself via a gas odor into the trunk or passenger compartment. It might be a good idea to put the car on a hoist and follow the fuel lines from the engine to the fuel tank. There should a one line that takes the fuel from the fuel tank to the engine and another that brings back the excess. There should also be another line coming out of the fuel tank that is for venting. Unfortunately, the fuel pump and hose connections are not easily accessible and require either removing the gas tank or cutting a hole in the trunk to access it. You should definitely take care of this soon as leaks don't get better, only worse and it is a potential fire hazard. Good luck!

Service engine light keeps coming on. OBDII P0446

Hi

This engine code is related to a malfunction in the electrical circuit for the vent valve/solenoid in the evaporative emission control system.

Probable causes are;

1- Purge or vent solenoids defective.
2- Defective wiring or bad connections in the vent valve/solenoid circuit.
3- Fuel saturated vapor canister.
4- Failed EVAP vent solenoid.

These engine codes are useful indicators to where the fault lies but usually require further troubleshooting to fully determine the underlying cause.

However I have listed the probable causes so to give you a starting point for your investigations.

Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.
