Question about 2002 Mercury Sable

1 Answer

I recently went on a trip of close to 800 miles round trip. On the way down my 2002 Mercury Sable ran well with the cruise control. On the way back, the car started jerking trying to go uphill, when increased speed was needed. This happens more with the cruise control. My daughter drove and gassed the car uphill and experience some jerking also. What can cause this?

Try a diffferent shop

Have to clean the MAF Sensor & replace upstream
oxygen sensors if over 100,000 miles

Need the correct oem spark spark plugs/any brand

No reason the gas filter should be clogged unless it was in
the car for 10 years

Fuel pressure should be checked

Need to check for cylinder misfires on a road test of 20

2000 Mercury Sable Cruise Control stopped working

Check the fuse panel. Look for a fuse that says cruise on it. If you cant find a fuse for that check your cigarette lighter fuse. somtimes they are conected. Its going to be something simple like that.

Cruise control for 1994 mercury sable four door sedan not working

There are numerous things that can cause this. A fuse, a vacuum leak, a bad switch in the steering column. The switch in the steering column is usually the culprit but is also the hardest and most expensive to change. Best way to find out is to plug it into a computer and see if it reveals any trouble codes.
Also of the many things that can go wrong outside of replacing the servo controller.
Check the servo deactivation switch. Located on the brake pedal arm under he dash. This will require you to remove the black plastic duct fot shield to expose the under dash area. It only has 4 plastic speed grommets. You will see to switches on this brake arm.
The lower one activates the brake lights. The upper one deactivates the cruise control and is a common failure in 1998-2002 Ford mercury Crown Vics and Marquis. Remove the connector(also known as connector c223), and check the continuity of the switch opened or closed. It should change from infinite to a short using a standard voltage meter set to ohms or continuity and pushing the brake pedal.
Also Fuse number 1 (15amp blue fuse) located there under the dash as well, is the primary fuse for the cruise control servo. In most cases you will see this ok

Rough idle, stalling, cruise control out

Sounds like you have a vacuam leak.
Check the vacuom hose to the cruise canister........and work yuor way back to the source. I'll bet you find a hose off. Also, listen for any "hissing" sounds (obviously, not the carb).
Bet that solves ALL your probs.

I Have A 2001 Mercury Sable. When I activate the cruise control

If and only if the cruse control's are located on the directional switch arm, try replacing it. If this dose not fix it , your looking at a lot of money to track down what is the cause, only a deal will touch that and its not somthing you want to go trying to do your self if you dont have wireing experance. An after market shop may mess with it but you will pay hell with the come back's.
1. get use to not useing the cruse control, it eats up more gas anyway if you have it going for less than a 100 mile trip.
2. get a stick, cut it to just the right hight and wedge it betwen the gas pedil and the seat, hehehe im just kidding

1993 mercury sable cruise control doesn,t work.

Please try this first, either go to a local wrecking yard or to car-parts.com and buy a cruise control module. Replace it and see if that solves your problem, I hope it will and thing it will. Good Luck and Merry Christmas, I am assuming you know how to check your fuses correctly.
