Question about 1997 Lincoln Town Car

Have a 1997 Lincoln Town Car. The cruise control on and off switch in the steering wheel has stopped working. What is the procedure for replacing that switch and can the average person with a little bit of mechanical skill perform this repair? Thank you very much

First, have your VIN# checked for the cruise control recall. There was a fire problem and the button inside the car is not the problem.

If you had the recall performed, they put a fuse inline. It may have blown. If you need to replace the button, check out a Salvage yard which will give you the opportunity to see how the parts fit before you tear yours apart. The Salvage part would be cheaper than a dealer part.

Could be a defective speed sensor or open fuse. If your Town Car has steering wheel cruise controls, the defect could be in those controls.

No. The steering wheel does not need to be removed to replace the dimmer switch. Remove the screws under steering column and remove the upper and lower panels.

Speed control switch replacement

Depends, steering wheel buttons, on throttle body?
If it is on the steering wheel I suggest you purchase or consult the repair manual. There are a lot of steps you have to take.
Most importantly if this is it. Make sure you follow correctly the procedures involing the air bag.
You do not want this to go off.
