Thermostat does not go there follow these directions .follow the hose and pipe underneath the engine, the pipe will turn upward to the thermostat cover. Raise the hood and remove three bolts and cover over the manifold. Look down through the manifold railings and you will see the thermostat housing. Use a number 8 socket and long extension and remove the two 8 mm. bolts connecting the pipe to the housing, The pipe will drop down, if you have removed the hose and bolt under the bottom of the engine. Move the pipe over so you can see the thermostat. Use a stiff wire, bent and stuck through top of thermostat, pull upward and remove thermostat.

Wrong thermostat, for sure. The package may have had the wrong product in the box. Take it back and compare to another boxed thermostat... Perhaps at a different store. The thermostat should be snug so that it can stop the flow of the coolant and regulate it when up to temp.

Where is the thermostat located and how do you replace it on a 1995 pontiac sunfire?

Hi there,

The thermostat should be located in a removable housing at the engine end of the upper radiator hose. For adequate replacement, here are some tips to guide you:

Drain about 1 gallon of coolant from the radiator
Remove this housing
Note how thermostat is installed
Clean both surfaces
Replace thermostat and gasket
Replace housing
Re-fill coolant slowly to prevent an air lock
Start engine and look for leaks
Run engine to normal operating temperature with heater on
Re-check coolant level

Good luck!

Car heating up coolent boiling fan comes on ''no coolent in the oil 2.4 1997 sunfire were and how hard is it to change the thermasta

the thermostat is in the housing where the top radiator hose goes onto the motor, it isn't that difficult to replace all you have to do is remove the top hose from the housing, undo the bolts take the housing apart remove the thermostat & clean both surfaces with a suitable scraper or sand paper, fit the new thermostat then the new gasket & put the housing back together & refit the top radiator hose.
a couple of things to careful of : 1. DO NOT try to force the bolts to much as they may break 2. DO NOT over tighten the bolts when tightening......hope this helps......cheers

Where is the thermostat on my 1997 sunfire

If you follow the top radiator hose back to the front of your engine it will go directly into the thermostat housing which is located at the top of the motor. It usually requires you to remove this hose and then take the two bolts out of the housing. Once that it done give it a little tap with a wrench and it will come right off. Make sure you scrape all the old gasket material off the housing and the engine block before you install the new thermostat.

While standing in front of the car look left you should see a housing with a few radiator hoses hooking to it. Unhook the main radiator hose that goes into the front part of the housing. Then remove the three bolts and pull off the metal plate exposing the thermostat.

Were is the thermostat located in a Pontiac Sunfire 2000?

Your thermostat is located under the thermostat housing, which is what the upper radiator hose clamps to on the top of your engine. Basically, you need to start with a cold engine, drain your radiator, then unclamp the upper radiator hose from the engine. Remove the bolts from the thermostat housing, and gently tap on it to remove it. clean up the mounting surfaces on both the engine and the housing, and install a new thermostat, and new gasket. tighten to proper torque, reconnect the radiator hose, then refill up the radiator and cooling system.

How to replace the thermostat in my 2001 pontiac sunfire

Drain some of the coolant until you are sure it will not spill over when you remove the hose.
Remove the hose from the radiator .(Top) Hose. follow the hose to the thermostat housing. Remove the hose by removing the clamps.the thermostat is located in the housing. remove the bolts holding the thermostat housing. remove the housing. be careful to notice the position of the thermostat. Make sure you get the proper degree thermostat . Ask the vendor. give as much info as possible. mainly the size of the engine. remove the thermostat. You will get a new gasket with your new thermostat. Clean off the sufaces of the thermostat housing before installing the gasket.use a little grease to hold the gasket in place. and reinstall the new thermostat. replace housing and hose and refill with antifreeze/coolant. i hope this works for you and you vote for my answer.
