I just replaced my belt as well. first of all since you'll find it not a easy task and worth it to buy a new water pump, idler pully, tensioner pully, and crank and cam seals You'll be exposed to all these items once you figure out how to remove the heavy metal plate that the engineers had there fingers up there @&*&^%$%^ when designing. get you a hanes manual ,make sure you read and do everything it tells you to do..theres no easier way. and when raising the engine make sure you are clear from the computer located directly behind the air cleaner on the firewall. also if you disconnect the battery you must keep power on the vihicle .read the part in the book about disconnecting the battery. after you install the belt ,turn the engine over a couple of times and then recheck your alignments again. I didn't do this and now I'm off one tooth on the crank and having to reset the belt.the car runs great but the idle doesn't.it only took one tooth difference. I'll tell you this now GOOD LUCK!! Timing belt replacement on a 2001 pt cruisre

Not for the beginner, I will be doing one on monday. 2001 Twin Cam.

I have been in repair for 30 years, I would not let anyone with less than 5 years experience touch it. This motor has the potential to bend valves if out of time between the cams and crank.

Changing the right side mount too. 10 hours according to the book (all data) and thats for someone that knows how.

if you replace the crank sensor and camshaft sensor you need a DRB scan tool reprogram sensor to pcm.so they will work.

Most likely a cam sensor or a crank sensor. The timing belt didn't break did it? They also have an issue with the timing belt tensioner going bad and jumping a tooth.
