Question about 1995 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

My heater in my 2002 Dodge Caravan didn't work this morning. Later today after driving about 40 miles the thermostat light came on. I was able to park it right away so hopefully didn't do any damage. Any idea what is wrong?

look at connection to your starter. sometimes the positive cable works loose due to driving conditions. I had same problem with a Suzuki it only did it in cold weather but I ended up replacing the starter.

My Dodge 2005 Ram overheats on hot days while running the AC. If I turn the heater on then it cools down. I need to know if this is a thermostat problem or if something else.

I see your post was a while ago. I hope this helps you or anyone ells having Dodge over heating issues.

I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 and a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. I also owned a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan. ALL of them had thermostat issues. When you replace the thermostat make certain you get the proper heat rating. If it is rated tool low, then the check engine light will trigger the code that the engine is not heating up fast enough. I also recommend going with a 'fail-safe' thermostat. These thermostats fail OPEN rather than closed. My 2002 RAM factory thermostat failed closed, built up pressure, then blew half the water out from under the radiator cap. This happened in less than 35k miles. The dealer replaced it. After a couple of years it failed again. Make sure you have 50/50 mix of anti freeze to water. This raises the boiling point of the water, makes it more efficient for cooling the engine, treats the water so it does not corrode and scale up the cooling system and helps keep the liquid from boiling off there by reducing the volume of fluid in the cooling system. Also, BOTH my 02 RAM and 05 caravan developed a leak in their radiators. They were slow leaks and I did not notice it until I did some standard checks and found the coolant was low, Most shops can run a pressure test for less than $40 to let you know if your radiator is leaking.

You should also make sure that your AC cooling fans is running. There are fuses and solenoids in the fuse box that can sometimes go out. When you AC is on this fans will turn on. If not, it could create a lot of extra heat.

Hard shift when accelerating.. I was stopped at a red light this morning, after driving for about 5 minutes. I started to accelerate when the light was green, and when I hit about 40 kms the shifting was...

The low-reverse band may need adjustment. The tranny oil pan needs to removed to do this & you might as well change the tranny filter while your there. Purchase a chilton manual or haynes manual. Both show the procedure & specs to do the job. Also check your tranny fluid level first. Warm the car up & take for a short drive first. Check in park & make sure the van is on a level surface. If it is low, add but do not over fill. Low fluid will cause this symtom also. Good luck!

98 dodge caravan overheating...heater works..checked fans they came on later but when I drove it after it cooled down and it overheated...check engine lite came on.

About the only things are the thermostat and the water pump. There could be something with the radiator but that is the rarest because the water shoots straight through. If it overheats fairly rapid,it's most likely the thermostat.Sometimes a water pump will let you go 20-30 miles before overheat. The thermostat is cheaper and easier if you're going to try it systematically.Overheat will probably cause the check engine light too.Good luck! After driving for awhile oil light comes on when i stop, goes back off when i give it gas

The engine bearings and oil pump are getting worn. Try 'high-mileage' oil next oil change (be sure to change the filter too). If you have been running 10-30 oil, go to 10-40 which has more viscosity and maintains oil pressure better. The sure fix is a fresh engine, but not cheap. We had a '96 Caravan that had over 300,000 miles and still running well on the original engine when we bought a later model Caravan.

Engine Cooling problem 2003 Dodge Caravan 6

It needs a thermostat and a coolant flush, in the worst case scenario a head gasket may be blown or leaking, have your mechanic do a coolant flush, thermostat, and leak check.
