Location ECT sensor 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8 liter engine

Sensor is typically located at a hot part of the engine - thermostat housing, heated intake manifold, cylinder head.

Checking a sensor isn't easy because the value changes with the temperature. The sensor is suspended into water of a range of known temperatures and ohm readings taken and compared with the specifications.

The alternative method is to read the live temperature data from the ECU and compare it with readings taken from an accurate contact or infrared thermometer. A rough indication can be made by comparing the cold engine temperature and ambient.

If the ECU is reading coolant Temperature it can be assumed the circuit (wiring) is functioning. Alternatively the circuit function can be checked with an oscilloscope or the wiring can be checked with an ohmmeter after referring to a wiring diagram.

Often the sensor is not expensive and it is more convenient to replace it and hope. Once a replacement is obtained it becomes easier to recognise when looking around the engine...

Location of code p1137 on 01 alero

catalytic converter .
In order to control emissions, a catalytic converter converts any harmful exhaust emissions into harmless water vapor and carbon dioxide.
The powertrain control module (PCM) has the capability to monitor this process by using a rear-heated oxygen sensor (HO2S 2). The HO2S 2 , located in the exhaust stream past the catalytic converter, produces an output signal which indicates the storage capacity of the catalyst. This in turn indicates the catalysts ability to convert the exhaust emissions effectively. If the catalyst is functioning properly, the HO2S 2 signal will be far less active than the signal produced by the front oxygen sensor (O2S 1).

85 Vic,5.0,CFI,..Was driving home from work (about 25mi) when I got about 4blks from home, she started missing and died. I restarted but it ran rough and died again.I parked it and walked home, had it...

From your description it could be fuel or ignition. Ignition is usually easier to start with and only checking the spark power and quality as the engine dies will indicate what is happening - if anything.

Major freon leak, knock sensor codes, reduced engine power

I would say your a/c evaporator may be the culprit for your leak. What code did it give you for the knock sensor replacement? I would give it a tune up if it has been awhile.

My abs light is staying on. Is it safe to drive my car?

yes. the light indicates a fault in the abs system (it will store a code which can be retrieved with a code reader), and the abs system will be disabled until repaired. your brakes will function normally, but you will have no abs feature.

Location of the coolant temperature sensor

You will find this sensor where the fat hos comes from the radiator and conects to the engine block. It would be on the housing where the thermostat is located. If it is not there you should look for a sensor that has a wire connected to it anywhere on the engine block where a water inlet is located. I hope this helps. Don't forget to rate my answer, thanks.

95 gmc jimmy engine codes

9141 does not exist I will assume it is DTC P0141 HO2S Heater Performance Bank 1 Sensor 2

The VCM has the capability to monitor this process by using the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S Bank 1, Sensor 2). The HO2S (Bank 1, Sensor 2), located in the exhaust stream before the catalytic converter, produces an output signal which indicates the storage capacity of the catalyst; this in turn indicates the catalysts ability to convert the exhaust emissions effectively. If the catalyst is functioning properly, the HO2S signal will be far less active than the signal produced by the Heated Oxygen Sensor (Bank 1, Sensor 1).
When the HO2S temperature measures below 360°C (600°F), the sensor will not produce any voltage and will behave like an open circuit. This will result in an Open Loop operation.
The HO2S heater provides for a faster sensor warm-up which allows the sensor to become active in a shorter period of time and remain active during long extended idle. The DTC P0141 determines if the HO2S is functioning properly by checking the response time of the sensor. This DTC is a type B DTC.
