How do I remove the windshield wipers in order to access the cabin filter to change it?

There is a plastic cover covering the cabin filter. The windshield wipers have a post that is inside a hole of the plastic cover. The entire windshield wiper has to be removed before I can remove the large plastic cover. Do I just pry them off? I'm hesitant to do this but I believe they are just like gears connected together that slide off and on.

You must remove lower cover on arm to expose the retaining nut then remove the nut before pulling the arm off with two sided puller it is important to make a mark on it so that it is lined up properly when reinstalled . then this should allow access to remove cover over cabin filter.

I may not understand where the filter is located but if the wipers are in the way, turn them on and switch the key off when they are straight up.

If the wipers are mounted as most are, with a knurled fitting with small gradations and possibly a flat spring to take up any play that can develop with use, you should be able to raise them into a position that allows for cleaning of the windshield.
Once in that quasi-vertical position, it should be possible to pull (with some wiggling) them free of the shaft on which they are mounted.

As well as this system works, replacing them is somewhat tricky; you may have to remove them and turn them slightly to regain the same position they were before removal.
I use a dot from a fine marker to mark the position of shaft relative to the socket on the wiper arm so it doesn't normally require more than two tries to remount them.

How do you change cabin filter?

The cabin filter is located under the plastic panel just below the passenger side wiper blade.

As I recall, turn on the wipers and turn off the ignition key when the wiper is up on the windshield.
Unclip the plastic washer line from the panel. Pull the rubber molding off at the top of the firewall. Using a screwdriver, pry up the two? plastic retainers. Remove the panel. The filter should be there.

Not all the Impalas came with cabin filters, but a cabin filter can be installed even if it didn't come with one.

Where is the a/c air filter & how do you change it out?

The cabin air filter is located under the plastic windshield panel that runs the width of the car at the bottom of the windshield...where the wipers are. I believe on the passenger side. And i do believe the wipers arm has to come off. Remove the panel, and it's under there.

Lincoln continental cabin filter

I solved the problem by ordering the filter fro an online site that gave instructions:

http://www.cabinairfilters.net/cabin%20air%208467.htm
instructions at this link are:
Turn on wipers until they are in an upright position then turn ignition off. Open the hood. The filter compartment is on the passenger side, directly beneath the windshield. Pull back weather strip and remove cowl. Slide the water shield toward the front of the vehicle then lift to remove. Replace filter and reassemble.

I have it out and am waiting for new filter.

Where is the cabin filter located

The cabin air filter is located directly underneath the cowling at the base of the windshield on the passenger side of the car.
To access the cabin air filter, you will need to remove the cowling. First, open and lift the hood. Second, locate two plastic pins securing the plastic cowling at the base of the front windshield, on the passenger side. One is located under the wiper blade, near its base. Use a small screwdriver or similar tool to carefully lift/pop up two plastic pins securing the cowling, taking care not to damage the plastic pins. (You want to lift the pins, and not the anchors that look like washers beneath the heads of the pins. Carefully pull the plastic pins and their plastic anchors (once you pull the pin up, you can safely remove the anchor). Take caution not to damage the pins and anchors as you will need them to rescure the cowling when you are finished replacing the cabin air filter.
Before you remove the cowling, carefully pull back the rubber gasket and windshield washer fluid tubing at the base of the cowling. You can now safely remove the cowling, and you will see the cabin air filter below.
Remove the old cabin air filter and replace it with a new filter.
Reverse this process to reinstall the cowling, gasket, and pins once you have replaced the filter.

How do I replace the cabin air filter on a 1997 mercury sable?

It is underneath the black plastic pieces under/below the wipers. There are just a few round fasteners that hold down the passenger side piece that need to be removed to access the filter.
You have to remove the windshield wiper arms, then take off the plastic molding that lies between your windshield. Once that is off (it comes out in two pieces) on the passenger side of the car, under the windshield just behind the firewall there is a plastic rain shield with two screws. Remove the rain shield. The cabin filter is under that rain shield. FYI...every bolt is metric, and be careful when removing the plastic molding-only turn those screws a half turn, they break very easily!

Hiya...the cabin air filter is located below the front passenger/windshield area.
It's only accessible by standing outside the Equinox with the hood open.
Here's how to do it...(before you pop open the hood)

1) Stand outside at the front-right door area.

3) Raise the hood up.
4) There may be a triangular-shaped hard foam sound damper at the left side nearby the hood hinge...pull it off if it allow you to work around it with ease.
5) Continue to find a few black plastic clips around the black windshield wiper cowl area.
