Steps:
1) Remove the lower clamp from the front rubber hose (air horn)
2) Pull up on the entire housing (gently but firmly ... don't yank it) and disengage it from the engine
3) loosen and remove the clamp to the flexible air intake hose on the right side of the engine (at the air cleaner side ince the hose goes through the wheel house)
4) With the air cleaner housing removed from the engine compartment, turm the housing over and remove the seven screws holding the lower part of the housing to the upper.
5) Remove and replace the filter element
6) Re-assemble in reverse order

How do I change the fuel filter on a 2006 hhr

There is no fuel filter you can replace without dropping the gas tank.
GM stopped using filters in most models in 2001.
There is a screen in front of the pump inside the tank.

2006 hhr 2.4 won't start after replacing both camshaft position sensors.

Did you remember to plug in the MAF sensor? Are you sure the air chamber is correctly installed on the throttle body?

How do I change the air filter on a 2006 Chevy HHR

It's inside of the plastic cover on top of the engine. You'll need to remove the assembly. First lift the rear to loosen it from the stud. Loosen the clamps to remove the ducts and pcv tube. Disconnect the electrical connector. Now you can tip the assembly over and remove the screws to separated the halves and replace the paper element.

Poor gas mileage after a long trip on my 2008 Chevy HHR

How about Fuel filter? How many miles on vehicle? In some cases a fuel filter can cause this as well as a "lazy" o2 sensor. If to lazy, ecm will set check engine lite.

It is located behind the glove box. You have to remove the glove box and there is a cover over the filter. Good luck
