It either goes through the top of the head or between the intake into the head. There are coil packs sitting on top of it so there hard to distinguish

How do you change out the plugs with coil pack and boots on a 2002 F150 5.4 triton

Disconnect battery. unplug coils, remove one bolt on top of each coil and pull coil up and out of the way. using a swivel, 3/8" drive ratchet, extension and socket, and proper spark plug socket remove the spark plugs. Make certain to use anti-seize on the threads of the new spark plugs. install new plugs and reinstall coils or replace them if you want. you can carefully unplug and unbolt the PCM from the upper right area of the engine to make it easier to get to the right plugs.

Replacing spark plugs on f150/2002

I am assuming v-8, (v-6 similar) they are under the coils four to a side, on either side of the intake manifold. DO NOT USE THREAD SEALANT, 2002 has the better heads over older 4.6/5.4 but you can strip out the threads, requiring expensive re-threading/helicoil repair. be sure to use di-electric grease on coil boots to reduce the possibility of crossfire, and to make removal easier next time.

4.2 v-6 has plugs on outside, of valve covers, and plug wires. same issues.

How to change spark plugs in 2002 ford f150 with a 5.4ltr

Hello my name is Israel and I will be glad to help you. On this vehicle it is fairly easy. This vehicle has a coil to plug assembly, meaning that each spark plug has its own coil. All you have to do is carefully pull the spark plug wire off the spark plug with a little "tough love". Using a 5/8 socket remove spark plug and replace with new one, connect spark plug wire until you feel it "snap" back onto the spark plug. Repeat with the other 7 spark plugs. Good Luck.

I suspect the coil pack for one of your cylinders. Ford uses a spark plug cap with a electronic coil pack attached to each plug. I have repaced three on my 2002 F150 so far; Its a common problem
