Question about 1996 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
It is probably grinding when it isn't wet, too. The water make excess noise because the water gets very, very hot.
The brake pad(s) are worn down too far. The rotor (or drum) is probably damaged, too.
Replace the brake pads (both front or both back) and examine the brake rotors for "ridges". Replace them if there are ridges.
