There is a tool for that. It must be turned as it compresses. Do not try and force it in you will break it.

If the piston is stuck out this is due to a seized calliper however a temp Fix is to turn the piston clockwise to force it back in as rear callipers are self releasing so they need to be turned clockwise they will not go stright back without turning. This is due by broken calliper seals although you will temp fix it, It's best to either replace calliper or buy a calliper fixing kit which includes all the seals that need replacing.
Also You will need to Empty the brake fluid out to make it easier to push the piston in it, Then you will need to bleed the whole brake system once fitted back.

Rear pisttons on ford 500 will not push in to install rear brake pads

If you have disk brakes, and you cannot fit the new brake pads in the callipers? Loosen the brake fluid reservoir cap to allow pressure to escape. Use a large C clamp connecting it to the front and back of the piston. Turn the screw on the clamp to compress the brake piston then release the clamp. The piston will remain compressed allowing you the fit the housing over the new brake pads.

Ford rear brake pistons usually screw back in .
if you have compressed them mechanically they may be damaged.

Rear disc brake caliper does it just turn in or compress on 2006 ford 500

I have the same car and I had the same problem when I changed my brakes. The rear caliper piston twists in; you need a special tool that has a plate, a threaded rod with a T handle, a nut (sleeve style) and a disk adapter with two pins that mate with the slots on your caliper. I rented mine from autozone, reqd a 55 dollar deposit but you get that back when you return the tool. Once you place the tool in the calipers you have to turn the t handle counterclockwise (for the rear passenger caliper) while twisting the nut in the same direction (I know this sounds crazy but trust me). This will compress the piston.

If the caliper does not twist in (because you may have turned it clockwise like I did) you need to restart the threads. I did this by pulling off the old pads and re-attaching the calipers. I had to do this because the gap was too small to place the tool in the caliper after I turned it clockwise and removed the tool. I hit the brake pedal which compressed the piston against the rotor. A ford tech told me to remove the entire assy and pound the caliper piston with a hammer, this may be the proper way to do it but I didn’t want to bother. On the driver’s side you have to turn the t handle clockwise while turning the nut counterclockwise. You should only have to turn the T handle about 10 to 15 times to seat the piston, if you are turning the tool more that that and not seeing any results you need to restart the threads. thers a special tool called an ice cube , place it on the piston push and roate at the same time,there is a arrow on the calliper for direction to turn,you may have to crack open bleeder to release pressure.

Most Fords I've worked on have a screw-in rear caliper design. Look at the caliper piston - do you see two notches on the face, across from each other? Those are the keyholes for screwing the piston back in. AutoZone rents/loans the piston retractor tool (leave them the full value of the kit, about $40, take it home and use it, then return it and get 100% of your money back). Simply fit the proper sized key disc onto the tool and screw it back into the caliper, and you're done.
