Question about 2000 Lincoln LS

1 Answer

Notice coolant was low, filled and droven about 90 mile and check it again still low, it never ran hot. the were no noticable leaks. I have over 200,000 mile on this lincoln ls 2000. I plan on changing cap first, then pressure test. Anything I maybe missing?

If everything checks out, have a hydrocarbon test done at coolant fill. Head gaskets like to fail at opposite corners on many of those...There was a "secret" recall on those and previous years but from what I've heard it didn't work as planned and some are still failing.
Hope yours is a simple external leak...pressure test and careful going over should tell you that.

Engine over heats while driving but cools down at idle

while driving coolant will cool down because air is flowing across radiator at idle no air movement ---check fan operation as well----- but until you fix leak you will still over heat due to lack of coolant and pressure

Coolant leaks heavily from passengers side. Started yesterday morning on the way to work. I noticed the vents weren't blowing hot air. Then I noticed the car start to overheat. I didn't drive any more...

Ok, may i suggest that you check your HEATER COIL, you can located it by pulling up " HEATER COIL" for your specific vehicle, this is what your coolant travels thru while hot and air passes thru this coil to produce the heat to warm your vehicle and typically the heater coils are located on the passenger side. Now as far as the leak location, check heater coil connections it could be the coil itself. GOOD LUCK!

Heat is not working - coolant was low so filled it.... problem here... heard something about an air pocket

If you dont have an external coolant leak anywhere under your hood that has shown up on your driveway it could be the intake manifold or the headgasket leaking. Also check the thermostate to solve the heat issue.

I have a 90 Acclaim, 6-cyl. This week the heat just stopped working & my car began running hot. Put a new thermostat in. While i did that i realized the coolant was low as well. Filled the coolant up....

Your problem is leaking head gaskets or a faulty water pump. Check your exhaust tail pipe for black pungent prestone odor. This is an indication of head gasket trouble. Have your cooling system pressure tested. Good luck!

99 Sunfire Coolant keeps dumping

You need to find the source of the leak. it hasn't overheated yet because you keep catching it and re-filling. From your description, it sounds a lot like a bad water pump seal (part of pump) but without physically looking you can't be sure of that. when the pump seal begins to fail, internal pressure while running often will drive the seal tighter against the shaft stopping the leak. as pressure drops as the engine cools, the seal relaxes and permits seepage.
With time, that will change and it will leak all the time.

2000 Toyota Celica coolant reservior empty

I hate to tell you this but its possible...

You have a leak. Look around on the driveway and try to determine if you have an external leak as opposed to an internal leak. If you see no coolant on the ground, suspect a blown head gasket. Do not continue to drive this car in this condition. If it does indeed have a blown head gasket, serious engine damage will occur.

Check your exhaust for white smoke. Chances are good you have a blown head gasket and coolant is leaking into the engines combustion chambers and is essentially burning off. Also check your oil, if it looks like caf mocha, this will confirm coolant is leaking into the oil via the blown head gasket

look for leaks on the passenger side!!!! also this car has a "air pocket" you need to find the bleed off screw on the upper hose fitting on the engine and bleed it when filling up with coolant

Car leaking coolant

First of all ensure that your car is leaking coolant fluid, and what is dripping is not just water condensation from the air conditioner.
If you have a coolant liquid leak, it can be from one of the ducts leading to radiator , from water pump or radiator itself. Check liquid levels, and if you have a leak have the car inspected by a qualified mechanic.
A broken water pump, for example, can cause your motor to blow in few miles.
