Chances are,if your check engine light is on while this is happening, you need to check #15 fuse to see if it is blown. If it is,there is a wire harness under you intake manifold, where it rubs and shorts out causing these problems.tape up wires that are bare and replace #15 fuse.

Don't change these sensors until you find out if you can road test with scan tool hooked up and look at sensor data. That was what I did when I had my Trans Repair Shop.

1990 HONDA CIVIC DX ENGINE LIGHT ON

More info needed. Is this a hatch back, sedan, or CRX? Is the odometer mechanical [old style] or digital [LCD numbers] The vehicle speed sensor [located behind the speedometer in the instrument cluster] drives both the speedometer and the odometer [mileage meter]. It sounds like an electric problem in the instrument cluster. Remove the instrument cluster and take it to your local speedometer repair shop. Look in the yellow pages for them. Or simply buy and install a used instrument cluster from a junk yard.

Where would I find my speed sensor on a 1996 honda civic dx in order to replace it, and how would i replace it.

It is located on the side of the transmission, requires 1 bolt, will notice a power plug which you must unplug wire connector, remove the bolt then the sensor canbe removed from your transmission it will pull out. Before installing your new sensor you may want to rub a little transmission oil on the part of the sensor that goes in transmission there is a o-ring on the part. This will help it go in alot more easier also lubricate you new part. Hopefully this was helpfull the sensor is around $100.00 - $140.00.

sorry to tell you this but it sounds like the wheel bearing was put in backwards on one or both sides. the front wheel bearings have a black speed ring built in and that is what your speed sensor reads off. - this is common as the front bearings will install either way- hope this helps

My mechanic told me I need a transmission sensor could you please tell me where I could buy that at? I have looked everywhere for it.It is a 1991 honda civic dx.

I think your mechanic is talking about a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor). Are you having trouble with your gauges, speedometer, or shifting points, etc...?

Need to change speed sensor on automatic 1996 civic honda, how do I perform install?

The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is located underneath the thermostat housing.
  1. Disconnect the 3-P connector from the vehicle speed sensor (VSS).
  2. Remove the mounting bolts, then remove the VSS.
NOTE: The VSS drive link is a very small part, be careful not to lose it.
  3. Install in the reverse order of removal.
