Question about 2002 Audi A4

Extreme thumping when accelerating through a turn

I could always hear my differential when accelerating hard through turns. Recently, however it has suddenly become extreme. When accelerating hard from a stop while turning, it feels like my wheels are going to fall off. It is clearly coming from the rear of the car and is too rapid to be associated with one spot on the tire. It only happens while turning (i.e. turning right on red into traffic where I'm forced to get up to speed quickly). If I slowly accelerate, nothing. If I'm not turning, nothing. If I push it too hard and the thumping starts, I can let off of the gas and it stops. Suddenly, I'm forced to drive like my mother. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds (pun intended) like a problem with the differential (that globe that connects to the drive-shaft and to the two rear tires. Maybe, one wheel has bad bearings, adding resistance into the differential.

2005 subaru outback xt makes thumping noise in rear

Start with inspecting the rear tires for out of round or bulges.

Next, inspect the rear shocks for oil leaks,

Both of these can cause the thump you describe.

Could be as simple as a defective tire. I had a similar incident when I drove over wet tar. A mass stuck to one of the wheels. You can check for transfer problems by grasping the linkages and shafts and shaking them for loosness.

I'm hearing a load thumping sound from the rear end when I turn.

If this problem just started recently it sounds like possible rear brake problem(for safety). Most likely if this only happens while turning could be a differential (positraction) problem. Have the rear-end oil changed and or there is a oil additive that helps this(cluch plates rubbing) problem. Good luck, best regards.

Look for a broken trailing arm, or loose bolts or degraded rubber grommets on it. This is a piece of the suspension that goes from the frame to the strut. It holds the strut in place vertically. When broken or loose this truck can bang around back and forth. It could also a a worn out universal joint which can be hard to detect because even the slightest amount of play can cause noises. Perhaps even a loose brake caliper. But the gears in the differential may be becoming worn and sloppy as well. You can check up a rear tire and try moving it back and forth to see how much played there is in the differential and universal joint.

Take your car to a mechanic or your local auto parts superstore and have them read/scan the codes for the reason for the check engine light. A good place to start.

Subaru 03 Forester - problem in front differential, 3 wheels turn

Thumping noises and vibrations can be something as simple as a tread separation(or a big bubble) on one of your tires. As for the one wheel turning---that's perfectly normal. If you grab the wheel that's turning (not really recommended) and stop it completely, the other wheel will spin.

It does sound like one of the universal joints. If you can raise the back end off the ground engage gear and the faulty u/v joint will make the wheel jump. This will let you know which side it is
