Question about 2001 Volkswagen Passat
First gotta check coolant level, if it's low then there's your problem (may need to add a couple times until it's stable). if it does not appear low then there's either an air pocket in the heater core (have someone do a proper drain&fill of the coolant and check for leaks) or there may be a problem in the actual climate control unit on the dashboard (this is much less likely).
