This code is a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) it is located on the top of the transmission, small and round with a electrical connector goint to it, very easy to change, you may have to remove air intake hose to engine to remove it, the part is around $50-$60

Codes p0501 p0700 p1753 p1758p0706

vss dead (veh, speed sensor)
A/T 700 codes are transmission errors. so is p17xxx
706 is trans mission range switch open circuited (bad switch or wires)
the scan codes never tell you what part is bad or what to replace.
it tells you ONLY what tests fail. called Monitors.
a Service tech, does this magic,. with tools and meters and gauges and special tests.
you can look up codes here.

you can go to (or get a real honda fsm book)
in the book it covers each code and now to test it and find the truth.
for example they will show you how to find P0501.
by looking at the VSS signal if good, the wires are bad.
if the signal is bad, the sender is bad. using a scope or meter.
good luck to you.

Code P0501

I doubt it.
Code 501 is for a problem with the speed sensor in the transmission which affects the speedometer and shifting.

I have a 1998 Cadillac Catera showing P0501 code

You don't understand the purpose of the OBD Codes

They do not tell you what is wrong or to replace anything

You never try anything

You retrieve the codes
Then use daignostic factory charts to find the problem
that caused the codes

That is why most people use a repair shop or dealer

No parts ever get installed until component tested & fail a test

You have no component knowledge,or testin skills & you are
as you said Screwed

With this code p0501, will this cause the car to not shift?

Yes the P0501 code is for a speed sensor - VSS. When the car's computer/ECU/ECM doesn't get a signal it may cause the car to go into 'limp' mode and not work correctly or @ all.

The turn signals shouldn't be related to the VSS, but get the P0501 fixed first.

The speed sensor can be inside or outside the transmission. Inside is very expensive to fix; outside shouldn't be too much - unless they have to drop the transmission to access it.

Edit: Read this LINK.There is a TSB - Technical Service Bulletin -it's NOT a recall, but refers to an issue that some cars have and the dealer is not obligated to fix for free. BUT ASK NICELY and they may reduce the cost @ least. Tell them the TSB # and the issue.

Otherwise, fix it yourself.

P0700 is just to tell you there is a trans code stored . P1794 is a vehicle speed sensor problem or output speed sensor problem depending on the trans type. P0501 is a body computer code for no vehicle speed signal.I would replace the output speed sensor.

Code P0501 vehicle speed sensor A range/

I found an answer to this in the reverse direction. While changing my front brakes, I noticed that the sprocket pickup for the speed sensor on the front passenger side half shaft that works with the sensor was cracked and ready to fall off. I removed it so that it wouldn't fly off and puncture a tire. I do NOT have Anti Lock Brakes on my 2001 Santa Fe. I started up the car wondering what to expect and experienced a P0501, P1529, P0500 and a second P0501. Looks like it time for a new half shaft (Axle).
