What does the check engine light indicate.

When lit, the computer has found some type of problem with the engine computer system, often a bad sensor, or something electrical with the ignition, such as mis-fires, running rich/lean, etc. Auto Zone can find out why the light is on, by hooking up a OBD II diagnostic reader, to retrieve the code, that is associated with the paticular sensor.

I have a Ford escort 1998 check engine light is on code is PO171 running to lean bank 1 what do I need to look for please to fix the problem?

It is most likely you E G R valve. They sometimes clog . It is a part of your smog emissions kit. It will hender the reburn of you excess gas fumes and will result in a lean code on your computer. You can buy one to put on yourself for about 50.00 bucks or sometimes you can use a product called seafoam that can be bought a auto-zone and run it through your vacum system and it will clear it up

2000 Lincoln LS and the Engine Light came on. Codes 0171 0174

you probably have a vacuum leak. check all your hoses pcv hose for sure. it means the engine is seeing too much air with the fuel.

Service engine soon engine light

it will eventually hurt something, when your car engine light comes on its a sensor telling the computer in your v ehicle somethings wrong and puts your computer in a closed loop ,which is a safety so lets say its the o2 sensor so your car doesnt run lean ,it goes into closed loop and will feed your car more gas, this is the best safety mode your cpu can do,which will cause other emmision sensors to fail and will cause damage the motor, take it to auto zone theyll check it for free,or pep boys and give you a print out for free including how much the part cost.dont forget to give a fix ya vote
