Question about 1999 Chevrolet Malibu

1 Answer

Can you bleed the air from the power steering system on a 99 malibu? The unit was making a lot of noise so I changed it with one I pulled at a junkyard. After starting the car and turning the steering wheel back and forth several times, the fluid in the power steering reservoir looked like coffee with cream. It still whines when I turn the wheel. Any idea whats going on and how I might fix this?

Yes you can, make sure fluid in power steering is full. jack up car and move steering from left to right, til it hits wheel stops. keep checking fluid level. when bleeding air from system, raise idle to about 1500 rpms. then turn wheel left to right. after done recheck fluid level.

How too do the bleeding of power steering pump on 2007 Jeep compass?

Bleeding a power steering pump in general is just by moving the steering wheel from end stop to end stop. Do not keep it at the end stop for a prolonged time, because it will put a lot of stress on the pump and lines. Keep an eye on the power fluid level, because when air comes out, the level will drop.

Why is power steering fluid spewing out of the cap after replacing bad leaking power steering pump

You have Air in the Power steering System and it needs to be bleed out, And to do this if you Jack the two front wheels off the ground and Let them Hang free so there is No Load on the steering at all. please put some type of stands under the car, You will need more power steering fluid but before you add this you need to start your Car and turn the steering Wheel Slow from left to Right a few times, You will hear a wearing Notice come from the pump and you will see more fluid come out of the pump as well, that is the air trying to bleed its self out. The fluid coming out will be air rated lots of bubbles in it, Now that you have done this the Noise from the pump should start to go quite at this Point you can start to Add the New power steering fluid slow to the reservoir and keep turning the steering wheel from left to right slow (Never Fast but slow ) Have a lot of rags to clean the Mess. Hope this helps you. :)

I replace the power steering pump on my volkswagen passat 2001 and is making kind of squealing

The noise is probably caused from air in the steering system. To bleed the air out of the system, start the engine and turn the steering wheel back and forth slowly, but do not turn it all the way to the steering stops. Continue to do this for several minutes. The air will slowly bleed out of the system. If that doesn't stop the noise, then it could be the belt slipping.

I have had the power steering pump replaced on my 99 pontiac grand prix, since then it has had no problems with power steering for about two months......then all of a sudden its making that whining noise...

YOU NEED TO BLEED POWER STEERING SYSTEM BY HAVING LOW FLUID AIR ENTER THE SYSTEM.PARK CAR ON SOLID LEVEL GROUND SAFELY RAISE SUPPORT VECHICLE ON JACK STANDS.YOU CAN LEAVE CAR ON GROUND BUT TURNING STEERING WHEELS BACK AND FORTH WILL WEAR SPOT IN TIRES.TURN STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT WITH THE ENGINE OFF.CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID.ADD MORE FLUID IF LOW.MAKE SURE FLUID LEVEL ON COLD MARK ON DIP STICK.THE YOU CRANK CAR UP LET IDLE LITTLE HIGH FOR 15 SECONDS.THEN TURN OFF ENGINE.CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL MAKE SURE ITS ON COLD MARK AT DIP STICK.THEN YOU START THE CAR UP WHILE IDLING TURN STEERING WHEEL IN BOTH DIRECTIONS SLOWLY TO THE STOPS DONT HOLD IN STOP TURN STEERING WHEEL LEFT AND RIGHT FOR SEVERAL TURNS.STOP ENGINE CHECK FLUID IF FLUID TAN STILL HAS AIR IN SYSTEM.LET CAR SET A LITTLE WHILE TRY THE BLEEDING PROCEDURE AGAIN.THERE IS A REASON POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LOW CHECK ALL POWER STEERING HOSES AT POWER STEERING PUMP TO THE RACK PINION ASSEMBLY.

I have a 2006 chevrolet malibu and the power steering keeps going on and off. this could be very dangerous

Hi
Is the power steering belt making any noise, skreeching etc?

Check your fluid level for the power steering, it could be low or even leaking as it sounds like air is getting into the system, make sure the belt is tight enough also.

My power steering pump makes a growling noise even when the car is idle. The noise is louder when I turn the steering wheel. The power steering fluid has gotten low a couple of times and gets foamy.

if gets low definitely a leak foam is pump mixing fluid with air roar is pump cavitation check lines or pump for leak keep fluid at recommended level air bound unit can cause steering difficulty and or failure if need have trained mech look into problem
