SOURCE: Cant find transmission filter on 2003 Dodge stratus Coupe.

The filter is inside the transmission. You need to take the pan off the bottom then you can replace the filter and the pan gasket.

SOURCE: engine light came on, doesn't up-shift

The transmission is in limp in mode. The check engine light is on because the transmission controller told the engine controller to turn it on. You will have to get the fault codes checked to diagnose the problem. Expect to find a P0700 code in the engine controller. Thats the code for a transmission fault in the trans controller. It could be as simple as an input speed sensor or as complexed as an internal failure. Either way have the transmission fault codes checked for a proper diagnosis.

SOURCE: Flat towing 1993 Dodge Dakota 4x4

That makes sense. The oil pump for the transfer case runs from the driveshaft, and the one for the trans runs from the engine. If you put the trans in neutral, then parts of it may be turning without lubrication.

Other things to watch on those trucks:
The electrical power goes through a splice near the battery and gets corroded.
Transmission lines tend to rust out near the tranny in salt country.

2005 dodge dakota tanny wont shift right after engine warm up what should i check

If you have the 3.7L V6 or 4.7L V8, your transmission is fully electronically controlled by a transmission control module (TCM). This module stores codes just like the PCM does for engine problems. Find a mechanic or a code reader that can read codes from the TCM to see if it has any codes stored, and what the codes indicate as the problem. If there are no codes, you may want to try just changing the fluid and filters (there are two) in the transmission.

2003 dodge dakota transmission fluid spewing out vent hose

sounds like the transmission is overheating probably check the fluid lines to see that they are not crushed I have seen this happen from running over a rock
and then you can always add a aftermarket trans cooler from your local parts store

Transmission flush for a 2003 dodge dakota

If you were told not to change the fluid,
then the trans is burnt & needs a rebuild

I would never flush a trans, too much work to
disconnect lines & your asking for trouble doing
so, as well as possibly flushing debris where it shouldn't
be, like into the solenoids

If you never changed the fluid every 3 years the trans is
most likely done, only reason to be told not to change it

If you change it ,it will slip worse or start slipping

Keep driving it or pull it & rebuild it

2004 Dodge Dakota V8 that is Idling very rough and the engin stops at times, and the automatic transmission is also not shifting smoothly.

transmission probably needs fluid and filter change. as for the the engine not running smootly, it may be in need of a tune up, you know, changing air filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires... or it could be a weak fuel pump.

I have a 6 cilinders 3.6l dodge engine ,need to know if transmission work for a 4.6 v8 engine

there is no 3.6 or 4.7 litre for a 2004 dodge or any other dodge. Secondly the transmission for a 3.7 litre uses a 42rle and the 4.7 litre uses a 545rfe which has more torque you would have to change the engine also and reprogram

Where do I put in the transmission fluid? Believe the transmission is making noises -- believe I have little transmission fluid -- I just want to know where I can put fluid in after I check to see if it is...

Fluid goes in the dipstick tube....at least it does in my 93 Dakota (3.9 engine). Check the fluid level when the transmission is hot, engine running and transmission in neutral
