1995 olds aurora won't start

Turn key, all interior lights come on (so I know it's not the battery) but my car will not start. I replaced the starter about 2 years ago. How can I find out what the problem is?

If you havent fixed this already im sure you have found tapping on the starter is virtually impossable on an aurora. If the starter clicks but wont turn over the solinoid on the starter is bad.In an emergency you can grab the center boss of the top fan belt fully with a pair of channel locks and rotate the engine slightly. sometimes this puts the flywheel so the bendix will engage and start the engine ultimately you need to replace the starter or solinoid

If the starter does not try to crank the engine when you turn the key, a pretty reliable trick is to lightly tap on the body of the starter a few times and then attempt to start the car. If it then starts, your starter is bad. hopefully you've got a warranty on the starter.

    edit:
sorry, i forgot to mention above you should be using a hammer to tap on the starter body, and don't be too afraid of it, just make sure you don't dent it

You always start with the battery. If you have no knowledge or experience troubleshooting these issues, your better off having a good repair shop lined up before you need one. Interior lights are not part of any starting system and do not draw much current as does the starter. The starter could be defective brand new, I have had that happen. It drives you crazy. So never speculate or assume. Follow a logical testing and elimination to sucess. Test battery, Cables and Grounds,Starter etc.

Ok I just spent $165 on new starter, and still does not start, if you put car in neutral and vehicle will start, it will more than likely be neutral safety switch, also if you push forward on the gear shift and try turning the key it is the neutral safety switch. I believe what has happened with my vehicle is that previous owner spilled something on console and it has corroded the connections and just need taken apart and cleaned up at most replaced. Hope this solves your problem.

My Oldsmobile aurora won't start. Battery still

The lights coming on are standard start-up checks.. The most likely issue is corrosion on the battery terminals. Pull them off give them a good clean up and try then. This is the most likely issue failing this it is probably the solenoid on your starter motor.

1995 Oldsmobile Aurora will start sometimes and other times it won't, I replaced the starter and still the same.

If the engine cranks but won't start, the battery and starter are out of the picture.
When it won't start, someone will need to check fuel pressure and for spark at the plugs to proceed.

2001 aurora won't start at all. Hook batery up horn horn sounds and doesn't stop head lights stay on but nothing happens when the key is inthe ingition. No clicking or anything at all. alarm on...

The security system does not disable the starter, it only disables fuel to the engine. In the fuse block under the hood, locate the STARTER relay. Place your hand on this relay and see if it clicks while someone else turns the key to start...if the relay is ok then the starter itself is faulty. Good luck, i hope this helps.

I have a 2001 olds aurora, wont start. Doesnt click or nothing, tried jump starting it dont do nothing. Battery is only 2 years old.

when you turn key on is there power to lights radio dash ? if yes check the starter relay and solenoid you can check easily using a test light find a good ground and a test light that works test light on battery first at the starter there will two wires one thick and will lead to battery the other wire is thin this is the wire you want to test have someone turn key to start while you test for power at wire if there is power at the wire replace starter the solenoid is deffective if there is no power at the starter sol wire then check starter relay

hope this helps leave me a comment and vote this was helpful any more questions reply

1995 mercury villager will not start i turn the key and all the lights come on but no click no nothing.... my husband could get it to start by jumping the starter so he replaced the starter nothing he then...

mcdevito75 her, My immediate thought is a dead or weak battery, but it could be a bad starter also, here"s what to do, inside the car turn the key 1 notch to the on position, note the dash lights, now turn the key to start and note the dash lights again, do they go dim?? if they do you most likely have a weak battery, if the dash lights do not dim, open the door so the interior light comes on, any interior light, try to start the car, if the interoir light dims, you have a weak battery, if it does not dim with the key all the way to start, check and clean the battery connections, and suspect a bad starter. Any electrical appliance can go bad very quickly. Also if the battery is2 years old, replace it.

95 olds aurora...starter clicks sometimes...works sometimes sometimes wont...checked all connections..replaced starter twice..replacement helps for a month or two but problem always comes back

have you replaced the wiring to the starter motor, both the main power lead from the battery and the ground (earth) lead from the battery. Being that the vehicle is over 15 years old, excessive internal resistance could be the cause of your problem, this also presnts itself as clicking from the starter motor because it is transferring less current...i would seriously look at this direction, if you dont know about auto-electrical testing, i suggest you take it to a shop to have it looked at it

95 Olds. Aurora - Starter clicks, does not turn over..

check the battery...maybe the amp hours is not
sufficient...not original recommended battery....inconsistency in starting...the solenoid is a switch...which may need cleaning....the starter motor may be full of carbon dust....causes a short to earth and pulls battery power on startup....a big neglected area in car maintenance...

1995 Oldsmobile Aurora won't start

if the car sat for two years and was never started.... the motor could very well be seized.... to get at the starter .... is usually done from the bottom. If you can removed the starter... test it to see if it's working.... something else you can try if you can see the starter ... is to tap it gently with a hammer while someone attempts to start it...

if the security light came on, then you need first to disable the security feature of the car. did you get the remote keys for the alarm as well?

it has this immobilizer feature that would prevent thief from starting the vehicle.

let me know what happen...

tnx 4 using fixya,
