Any brands for the gaskets that you would recommend? I see Autozone and Pepboys only carry one brand.
    Thanks.

Also, one side is very easy but the other side could be hard. Do I need to remove the intake manifold?
    Thanks.

Yes, remove the intake on the passenger side (if in the US, it's on the right) to get to the valve cover.

Simple steps to replace the Valve Cover Gaskets on a Jaguar XJ8?

Replace the valve cover gasket if the valve cover gaskets are leaking or if they're worn. The procedure is as follows:--
1)First carefully remove the nuts holding the valve cover to the engine head.2
2)Then pull the valve cover off from the engine head .
3)You can use flat-tip screwdriver to remove the valve cover.
4)It will be very dirty inside so you will have to clean the mating surfaces on both the engine head and the valve cover.
5)Take your time and clean it completely.

6)You can use a bead of RTV sealant on both mating surfaces.

7)Then carefully seat the gasket to top of the engine head.
8)The gasket can only be fitted in one way. So fit it properely.
9)Then tightly Press the valve cover to the gasket
10)And tighten the valve cover nuts secure.

This will help.Good Luck.

Smoke comin from top rocker cover smell like burnin oil

Could the smoke be coming from the exhaust manifold on the passenger side of the engine? When the valve cover starts to leak, it is common for the oil to leak down and burn on the outside of the exhaust manifold.
Replacing a valve cover gasket is not difficult or expensive, and it is common for BMW valve cover gaskets to get brittle and shrink and start leaking every 10 years or so. My wife's 330 needed a new valve cover gasket at 6 years.

2001 cam cover gasket, xj 8, how do i remove the oil dipstick line so that i can remove the cover

After removing the 10mm bolt where the oil dipstick attaches you have to wiggle and work the tube up (this requires a lot of force). If that does not work and it is jammed, you can use a small pair of very sharp dykes to cut the metal ring that attaches it to the valve cover gasket bolt. after cutting, bend it out of the way and pull it away from the cover which will give you enough room to sneak the cover off.

Be sure to ask the dealer or parts guys for new varible valve cover gaskets which is not included in the valve cover set.

Good Luck!

2001 Jaguar S Type that has a #6 cylinder misfire and oil on that coil.

The oil may be causing the misfire, you will need to replace the valve cover gasket and sparkplug tube seals, the oil leaks in from the tube seals, also make sure to clean hole out after the repair and make sure the coil is still good, you may have to replace the coil boot if its soaked with oil,

How do i replace the spark plugs in a jaguar 2000?

THE SPARK PLUS ARE LOCATED UNDER THE VALVE COVERS, ON TOP OF THE VALVE COVERS THERE IS A SMALL PLATE COVER WITH 8 LITTLE BOLTS THAT NEEDS TO BE REMOVED WHICH WILL THEN SHOW YOUR COILS, UNPLUG COILS PULL COIL OUT AND SPARK PLUG WILL BE LOCATED UNDER THE COILS.
The left side is easy, just pop off the left side engine cover...remove the coils and the plugs are right there. The right side is a whole other matter completely, you need to remove the intake manifold to be to access them. It is a relatively simple job if you are even slightly mechanically inclined. Ensure you replace the upper intake manifold gaskets when you remove the intake manifold.

Valve cover gasket leaking

When you buy the valve cover set, it will include the spark plug well "O" rings. Simply remove the valve cover and on the underside of the valve cover, you'll see the "O" rings that need replaced and you'll see exactly how the valve cover gasket itself fits.
