Question about 1999 Pontiac Firebird

1 Answer

My 1999 Pontiac Firebird will not go over 10 to 20 mph. After trying to excel the engine cuts out. When trying to restart it, the engine rumbles then dies. After waiting a few minutes its the same thing all over again. The car will reverse fine. Spent over $2,000 fixing it in the last 7 months. Had a new radiator, mass air flow sensor, new gaskets and gas tank installed. I think I also had a new fuel pump/fuel injection system installed but I have to double check. Service Engine Soon light comes on and off. Took it to get checked out but no codes came up! Been ripped off numerous times and was wondering if I could get any general ideas as to what's wrong with my car before I take it to another mechanic. ?

Is the engine oil level low? If not you probably have noisy/worn lifters.

Trying to locate the heat sensor on my 1999 pontiac firebird 3.8 engine

I'm not aware of a heat sensor. Depending on what the code was, there are heaters built into the oxygen sensors to heat the incoming exhaust gas while the engine is warming up. But that circuit would not keep a car from starting.
I would say something else is going on, like a faulty fuel pump relay or other electrical problem that has not yet showed up in computer codes.
Someone will need to figure out if you are dealing with a spark problem or fuel problem to proceed.

on or flashing?

if flashing, you are in danger of damaging converter.

If on, get free scan from AUtozone and get codes.

go here too. may be dirty MAF sensor, clean with carb cleaner and disconnect battery for 2 hours.
