Question about 2006 GMC Acadia

My 17 year old was driving our 2006 GMC Acadia, the side air bags deployed unexpectedly. Has this been an issue with Acadias?

Ironically, this same vehicle was involved in a front-end crash in June...airbags did not deploy! About $6000 worth of damage done to the vehicle. 3 months later a dog runs out in front of the car...DID NOT HIT DOG OR ANYTHING ELSE...slowed the car down to pull off the road onto the shoulder...side head airbags go off on both side of Acadia. Seat belt locked causing chest burn..The dealer from which we purchased the vehicle said they had never heard of this before. Do you think this is an issue the GMS should help with? Thanks for your help!!

There's been numerous issues regarding the airbag system in the Acadia. The system would not deploy the airbags in a crash, or would deploy them prematurely.

I have been involved in GM service for over 25 years. From time to time we hear of an airbag deploying without reason. I have never seen such a vehicle occurance in any product, GM or otherwise. I would suggest calling GM, their number is in the back of your owners manual. I would also suggest safercar.gov to check on similar complaints. I hope this helps.

The drivers side airbag light comes and stays on my 2006 Toyota Rav4 until the car is warm. What's wrong?

you need to get in touch with toyota they had a recall on your vehicle due to airbag.THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY CONTAINS ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS TO THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG MODULE HOUSED IN A SPIRAL CABLE ASSEMBLY, WHICH INCLUDES A FLEXIBLE FLAT CABLE (FFC). DUE TO THE SHAPE AND LOCATION OF THE FFC'S RETAINER, THE FFC COULD BECOME DAMAGED WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED.
Consequence: IF THE FFC IS DAMAGED, CONNECTIVITY TO THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG MODULE COULD BE LOST AND THE AIR BAG DEACTIVATED. THE FAILURE OF THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG TO DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH THAT TYPICALLY NECESSITATES DEPLOYMENT INCREASES THE RISK OF INJURY TO THE DRIVER.

How to turn off the drivers side air bag until I can afford to have it fixed

There is no "shut off" for the drivers air bag. However, you can remove the airbag fuse and this will disable the entire system.

My 2009 GMC Acadias dome lights are not working when I open the doors.....what am I missing?? I have read the manual about 5 times and followed what it said with no luck :(

Usually this happens when somebody pushes the wrong button to turn on/off the dome or map lights. On my car (not an Acadia) there is a button marked "Off" and another marked "Door." If you push "Off," you not only turn off the dome lights, you stop them from turning on when you open the doors. To correct this you have to push "Door." Not what you would expect a button marked "Door" to do, right? I'll bet there's something similar going on with your car.

You can still drive the car, just cut the air bag off. There is a lot more in repairing a deployed SRS than just replacing the steering wheel.

My ex husband was in a roll over car accident in his 2006 ford fusion going 70 mph and his air bags didnt deploy. is there a recall on those or does he have a possible case for his injuries?

Front air bags are not designed to deploy in side impact, rear impact or rollover crashes. There are several reasons why your air bag may not have deployed during a crash. The first reason is that perhaps your crash is not the type of accident where air bag deployment would be helpful. For frontal air bags, this includes many, but not all, side impacts, rear impacts and rollovers. This category also includes minor accidents in which the driver and front passenger (if there was one) did not suffer any significant injuries requiring medical treatment. Many people do not realize there are a lot of side air bags that do not deploy during a rollover accident, even when the vehicle rolls onto its side. That is because those side air bags do not include an appropriate crash sensor that can detect rollover crashes.

Service air bag indicator light on dash stays on

In most cases this problem is caused by the rotating ribbon circuit contact under the steering wheel having a broken filament, the part is known as a clock spring contact, u will need to properly disarm the airbag and remove the steering wheel to access the part. WARNING: Failure to disarm the airbag system can result in an unexpected Airbag deployment and possible serious personnel injury disconnect the battery 30 minutes prior to start of work.

Air bag replacement

There is something called a clock spring that is to be replaced and time an air bag is deployed. The main risk is an unexpected deployment while installing a new one. This can kill you!!! You must disconnect the battery(both terminals) and wait 30 min for backup power in the control module to go away. then be careful not to create static while handling the bag. Always hold it so it faces away from you if it where to deploy. There is a yellow conector on the back side and two screws to remove and replace the bag. The clock spring requires pulling the steering wheel. I believe you can rent steering wheel pullers.the clock spring just has screws and a connector. this is not rocket science it is done daily in body shops just follow the precautions and you will be fine

Have there been any unexplained air bag deployment in 2005 santa fe on the drivers side while in motion. my husband was driving and he said the air bag deployed and then he hit a car in front of him. do...

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/ is the website I checked for your car and found no reference to this issue. There are reports of airbag deployments with no collisions, although they are rare. The computer in your car is capable of displaying the deployment, and may show which sensor in the front if any caused it to deploy (collision first/deployment second) or if no sensor signal (deployment first / collision second) is logged. Whatever the outcome, you will need a specialist in data extraction to achieve this.
