I don't know what is wrong with my car. While driving, all of a sudden the speedometer goes to 0 and all warning lights come on, the brake warning light, abs brake warning light, the swerving car light (don't know what that's called), and sometimes the main engine failure light. Then several minutes later, all of a sudden the speedometer starts working again and all failure lights go out. What is going on? This has happened about 2-4 times a day for the past few days. Any ideas?"
I have had exactly the same problem for several months with the lights staying on for longer periods of time. One garage spent a long time checking the electrics and then said Saab told them it was a random surge and that I should replace the complete wiring loom. Now a Saab garage have told me it could be a problem with the ABS (as the ABS light is one of the ones which comes on) and are looking for a recon unit. Does anyone have any ideas please? My car has failed its MOT on this and I am desperate for a solution.

check battery voltage and clean cables. Make sure the battery ground wire to the body is in good shape. Second to check is the alternator because it can lower voltage if defective, it can be checked at auto parts store. You can also check wires leading to alternator to make sure they have not touched something too hot and melted insulation.
just lift the harness off the engine and if it sticks to the engine that could be where problem is. I hope this puts you in the proper direction.
Kind of an odd problem. This may be off in a different direction but I had an 78 BMW that the left turn signal did the same thing .It turned out to be the hazard light switch had a short in it. The problem was intermittent and very frustrating. The fix was a trip to the junk yard for a set of rims and the switch was a freebie. Don't know if this will help but I guess it can't hurt.
Take the car to a local auto parts place and they should be able to scan the computer and give you the code that triggered your check engine light. Most places will run this scan for free. Even if your Saab appears to be running fine it is prudent to have this checked to avoid a sudden break down. I hope this helps. Good luck.
you may be having actual trans. problems. You said saab replaced selector switch on trans? Do you know when the last time the trans was serviced? Sometimes flushing trans will help if it has not been too long.. I recommend flushing the trans every 30k, if it has never been done and you have 90-120k you may need a new transmission.
