I lost my key an attempted to start with a screwdriver now my tumbler is trashed. can i still remove the tumbler by pressing the removal pin?

You have to remove the plastic cover on the bottom of the ignition column.Where the tumbler goes in you will see a shiny pin that hold the tumbler tooth can drill that pin out carefully and use patience starting with a small bit size and working your way up.don not remove any aluminum material from the column as your new tumbler will not lock in to the column. These cars and columns are plentiful in the junkyard if you are not successful and don't take a lot of time to swap out.

Changed steering column in 1995 oldsmobile cutlass with security system. can I reset the key myself ?

you should use the tumbler from your old column.
you can have a bypass installed if you still have one of your old ignition keys, the dealer will have to reprogram your computer to work with a different key.

How do I pull the steering column to replace the key tumbler assembly? Keys lost.

i think that if you get a repair manual or do some searching on you may find that you need to remove only the plastic cosmetic shroud and not the whole column to get this job done. tons of cheap repair manuals on ebay.

Is there an easy online guide to changing out the ignition tumbler in a 1992 dodge caravan?

First remove the plastic 2 piece shroud around steering column so as to gain access to the housing the tumbler sits in. Find three Phillips screws to remove in holes in the lower piece.
Turn the ignition key to the Run position. Insert a small tip screwdriver in the access hole on the bottom of the housing to push the spring-loaded tab which will free the tumbler so you can simply pull the tumbler out with the key.
Installation is the reverse. Be sure tumbler with key inserted is set to the Run position.
Depress spring-loaded tab, insert tumbler into housing hole with tab down. All the way in,
Turn key to the Lock or turn it off.

Let us know if you want something more else please accept the suggestion.

Key will not always come out of the ignition when you turn it off

It sounds like the lock tumbler is going bad. If you have to jiggle the key to get it out, most likely it is the tumbler! First suggestion is to buy some grafite powder from a local auto parts store and coat the key. sometime it will lubricate the tumbler. If that doesn't help, you might have to order a new lock tumbler for the vehicle. It is an in-depth repair but if your mechanically inclined it is not impossible. You will have to take apart the steering column and change out the tumbler and use the new key that comes with a new lock set. Unfortunately, you will have separate keys for the door locks and the ignition system. First try the grafite though, sometimes it will buy you a little time before the repair. Good luck.

Lost key to 1998 Chevy S10 Need to remove&replace tumbler w/o key

With the title and an insurance card your dealer can cut a new key by the VIN if you have never replaced the lock cylinder before. If not it will be remove the column covers, drill out the lock and try not to damage the lock housing. Good Luck

Change key tumbler

My honest opinion here would be to goto your local auto parts store and buy the Haynes Manual for your truck. It cost about 15 bucks, and it gives you very precise procedures that will help you out quite a bit.
