Need to have the tool to compress the steering wheel lock plate and steering wheel and then it is not bad to do.

you can get them on rental from auto zone!

first remove steering wheel with puller then remove lock plate with compressor tool and you will have to take the clip out after compressing the lock plate you will see the c-clip around the column shaft.

once that is off you can remove lock plate and gain access to the multi function assambly that un screws with three main philliups head screws and the screw hoding the blinker arm and the flasher switch to it.

once those all are remove you can pull straight back towards you on the multi fuctin ***. it has a bunch of wire connected to it but don't worry they will pull out just far enough to get that out of your way.

once pulled back you will see a plastic piece that has two brass metal tabs on it on the right inner side of the column near the ignition switch. carefull pull straight back on it being extra crefull not to break it and once that is out you will need a t20 torx screw driver to remove the retaining torx bolt holding the ignition in.

once that is out your ingintion will come right out. install everything in the reverse procedure.

let me know if you have any more question. good luck

I just put a new ignition lock cylinder in my 92 Camaro Rs and I can't turn the key to lock which keeps it from releasing the key. What should I do?

Your ignition switch may be out of adjustment. If you did not pull apart the whole column and get the rack, which is opposite the lock cylinder, out of time then try sliding the switch downwards.
The swicth is located at the bottom of the column on top of the tube.

Remove security off a 1990 camaro because changed the ignition

One way is to change out the chip from the cars computer. Another way is use a General Motors GM VATS Override Bypass Kit, I'v learned that there is a pre-packaged set of resistors for the 15 GM resistor values I found a place called Sonic Electronix. Sonic here it is:
There is also a bit of misinformation on the internet Some tips I've learned when searching out this.
Example: Myth: The standard ignition cylinder lock will not fit or work in place of the vats ignition cylinder lock. Wrong! The standard 1990 camaro cylinder lock fits slightly deeper inside the column, so this takes away your ability to push in the key and turn it backwards for the accessory position. Other than that, it works fine for turning on the ignition.
I hope this helps some.

Changed a 1992 steering colmm,from a 1988 camaro,how do i by pass the chip key

You will need to remove the VATS module completely along with the harness. I would obtain a FACTORY Camero Chassis Manual with can be purchased on Ebay and a lower cost. This is a complexed job to take for so many wires are linked to many ares and need to be jumped once removed. Any wires going to the PCM ( computer ) will need to be spliced. I would leave this be and install the ignition cylinder with a resister key (chip type) which is much easier and a good theft deterent too

How do i change the ignition switch on 89 camaro?

I have not change the switch on a Camaro, but I have changed them on other vehicles, such as a 1985 Chevy truck. It should be similar. You do have to remove the switch from the cylinder lock first. On my 85 truck, there was a ring that held the switch to the lock. I disconnected the wires (after making a drawing showing where each went) then screwed off the ring and removed the switch.
