    93VW Fox 1.8 CA

We hot wired the electric fuelpump, and it pumped a bucket of gas.

We connected a testlight, as you said, from the gr/yl wire to +bat and turned the key on & off...The light sayed off. So, it's the dead relay!

I'll plug in a new $15-relay tomorrow, and I hope we have a solution!

    Thanks for our patients.

    Carl Wolf

PS: Your emails are dated tomorrow.

i am working with fingaz22 (good man -- 5 thumbs up) on this one solution which is not done yet.

for your info: 2nd electric fuel pump is in the gas tank -- it is cheaper and only assists $250 pump. i replaced the relay, but the injectors still do not fire. pump alone pumps a bucket full of gas.

Fuel pump in tank is bad or relay under hood in the relay block center is bad. You can check them with an ohmmeter. You can test power in wiring to fuel pump relay and pump itself with voltmeter to see if it is getting 12V

Since you have not mentioned any details like Manufacturer or Model, I guess you have mistaken one meant for circulation of engine oil. Anyway since the fuel pump has to be replaced and/or switch the other fuel pump which might be acting as standby.
It is possible that the fuel line from the fuel tank has got blocked, which in turn switched off the pump so as to prevent any damage to the pump, but this is just logic.
One thing I am sure off is that there is only one fuel pump in any vehicle. Since fuse is OK, its not an electrical problem but mechanical. I gues the other pump you have mentioned must be the compressor for the fuel-air mixture which exist in all MPFI engines(muli-point fuel injection).................sodeep

yea i lost the email man. sorry. but i will get the diagram tomorrow.

okay your fuel pump is under the bottom right rear of the car near the right rear tire mounted to a bracket tucked up in the floor but from the under side of vehicle .

your fuel pump relay is in the relay ceter under the dash on the drivers side of car. it is relay # 10.

for thes test you don't have to un hook any wires. just test with them connected.
now if you take a test light to the grey wire going to the fuel pump and the other side of the test light to ground of chassis or battery and have someone turn the key on. there should be voltage (test light lite) for a few seconds then it will shut off.

if that is good you have power and your relay and electrical for the power is good.

next is to check the brown wire witch is ground and take the test light put one end on the positive side of battery and the other end on the brown wire. you should have ground there (test lite) all the time key on or off. if that works you have a bad fuel pump.

if you don't have one of those tests confirmed you will need to go a little further but start there and let me know. mean time when i get to the shop tomorrow i will fax you electrical diagram.

hopefully this helps a little more but the other day when we talked i didn't know all the info on the car and didn't want to mss lead you!

    talk to you tomorrow!

Check all the fuses. Under the hood there are some relays and fuses there too. Check them. One of the relays is the fuel pump relay, it's probably bad. I'm looking for a diagram for you. It might be labeled, take a look. The fuel pumps are not coming on.

Better have the fuel pressure checked for starters. Even though the pump comes on, your fuel pressure might be too low. Lots of GM vehicles are finicky about proper fuel pressure, especially at start up. It could be a weak pump or failed fuel pressure regulator-a pressure test will sort it all out.

well if it is cranking its not starter or battery . maybe check to see if fuel pump is working .check fuses. you should be able to hear pump run for a few second . if pump working maybe fuel filter or sensor like throttle position ,air idle sensor. make sure all wires are hooked up on alternator & starter . no vacuum hoses off any where . is check engine light on ?

Van just shut down and wont start

Check all your fuses first. This is a easy check and could save you money. Make sure your battery is fully charged and you have no bad connections. make sure your fuel pump is kicking in when you turn your key. You should hear it for a second or two. You might not be getting fuel to the engine. If you turn your key and hear nothing, check your battery. It may be your starter as well. If it cranks and doedn't start, check the pump. Your fuel filter may be clogged. You can spray engine starter into your carborator, then try to start it. If it starts and dies, it could be your pump. If it does this, you are getting fuel. Try the fuses first. If you need help otherwise, just write me back. Best of luck.

Can you hear the fuel pump in the gas tank running for a few seconds when you turn your key to the on position without starting the engine? If you do not hear it something is wrong! If that's not the issue this could take a little while to pin down so feel free to contact me: over4dy@yahoo.com

Check your fuel pump pressure. You can rent a fuel pressure gauge from autozone and check pressure coming from supply pump. I bet its weak. Hope this helps.

Have to use starter fluid to start my car

Starving for fuel. Start by making sure the fuel pump is running. Turn the ignition on without starting the car and listen for the pump. It should run for a few seconds and then shut off if you don't start the engine. If you hear nothing, check the fuse. If the fuse is good then it can be a defective fuel pump relay, pump itself. If you hear the pump run and then shut off, suspect a clogged fuel filter, defective fuel pressure regulator, or an extremely weak fuel pump that is running but pumping no fuel.
