Question about 2004 Isuzu Rodeo

3 Answers

About once a week my 2004 Isuzu Rodeo will totally cut off in the middle of driving and the power steering goes out and the brake, check engine, air bag, and oil lights come on. I will turn the car off and wait a few seconds and turn the car back on and it starts up fine. Any ideas??

I have a good friend that works on my car and when i first told him about what happening he thought it was a fuel issue as well. Then he thought maybe it was the battery--the battery did have corrosion(sp) so I cleaned the battery but the cutting off happened today as I was parking my car. This happens maybe once a week to once every two weeks and have been happening for 2-3 mos now. I'm having my car checked this week--I will have them look at these items--best advice so far! Thank you!

The lights come on and the power steering goes because the engine has stalled while you are driving. it is the exact same condition as when you turn the key to the "on" position w/out actually starting the engine (all the same lights will be on and no steering because engine not running).
as for why this happens...sadly there are too many possibilities to usefully list here.
This is the basic equation for why your engine runs:
fuel + spark + compression = a running engine
The fact that your engine usually works means you can discount the compression piece of that equation.
This leaves fuel and spark. If loss of spark is the cause of the stalling, it is almost definitely in the primary side of the ignition system which means: don't go get a 'tune-up'. Tune-ups almost never-ever-ever fix driveability problems. The primary side of the ignition system consists of the crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor and engine computer...to name a few things.
It is also possible you are losing fuel pressure intermittently, which could be due to a failing fuel pump, but this is an unusual presentation. Typically they are found to be bad when you try to start it up initially rather than **** out in the middle of running.
Then again, this whole thing could very possibly just be due to a loose wire connection in a really unfortunate place. Impossible to tell from here, so you'll probably have to settle with taking it in somewhere. I will say this: don't waste time/money taking it to a shop until it absolutely will not start up again. Shops can't diagnose a problem unless it actually has the problem while they are looking at it. good luck

Get rid of the truck because unless you have the money to put into having it repaired at a dealership the computer in it is going bad .

Fuel gets cut off, probably.
Change fuel filter first.
Could also be fuel vapor lock. Check under hood to see if metal fuel line is touching engine or other hot surface. Make sure the fuel line is in its proper clamps. When liquid fuel is heated, it will vaporize and engine can't run (temporarily) when the fuel can't be pumped.

Engine will not start after changing battery in 2004 Isuzu Rodeo

Get yourself a can of starting fluid spray, and spray NO MORE than a two second burst into the air intake after removing the filter. Then crank it. If it fires (very briefly), your problem is low or no fuel delivery to the engine.

The ABS light in my 2004 Isuzu Rodeo (3.5) has been on for an extended period of time. My car cuts off randomly when the brakes are applied. Suggestions?

Your ABS sensor/s... you have to check them all...Sometimes the sensor outer wire gets worn,an the wires are exposed on the inside, now if this has happened...the wires will short out, when they touch the metal frame of the vehicle, which will cause the vehicle to cut off... However also make sure you dont have any vacuum leaks from your brake booster... A big loss in vacuum will also have the vehicle to loss power....Gooduck...

i suggest you get the code out of the vehicles diagnostic system it could shed some light on why vehicle cuts out.
does vehicle start straight away?
things like a relay, crank sensor, wiring loom or connector problem or more expensive things like engine ECU could be at fault.
i have seen all these but the most common for V6 engines is the engine harness wiring loom breaking and bad earth crimp on LH head to guard area.

Intermittant check engine light

The only way to find out what the problem is is by doing a scan of the car computer module using an OBD code reader.
The codes returned will tell you the cause of the problem.
