Unfortunately i got a used one since i live in nairobi in couldnt get a new.i dont the iac was cleaned but will take a chance myself.what next if all this does not solve the problem?

98 honda crv engine stalls whats wrong?

The IAC [idle control motor] may be sticking. This problem usually occurs once the car exceeds 80,000 miles in service. Remove the IAC and clean it's interior with carburetor cleaner. Reinstall it using a new gasket. Sometimes, cleaning will not suffice & a new IAC must be installed. A sticking or leaking EGR [exhaust gas recirculation] valve can cause the same problem.

95 GMC surburban keeps dying when in low rpm. I replaced the fuel filter and it ran good for a few days, then started crapping out again. I then replaced the spark plugs and wires and it ran great for...

First check for a vacuum leak. Any small loose hoses in the engine compartment? If not, suspect the idle air control valve. I have pasted test procedures for the iac below. Be careful not to confuse the tps with the iac. The tps is centered on the ybro5ttle body. The iac is more on the perimeter. An additional test I do after checking the valve is to plug it back in while it is still off the throttle body and verify that it actuates a little when the key is turned on. It should back up a tad to allow idle air through the passage for starting.

Disengage the IAC electrical connector.Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between IAC terminals A and B. Next measure the resistance between terminals C and D.Verify that the resistance between both sets of IAC terminals is 20-80 ohms. If the resistance is not as specified, the IAC may be faulty.Measure the resistance between IAC terminals B and C. Next measure the resistance between terminals A and D.Verify that the resistance between both sets of IAC terminals is infinite. If the resistance is not infinite, the IAC may be faulty.Also, with a small mirror, inspect IAC air inlet passage and pintle for debris. Clean as necessary, as this can cause IAC malfunction.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.Disengage the electrical connection.Remove the IAC valve. On thread-mounted units, use 1 1 / 4 in. (32mm) wrench and on flange-mounted units, remove the screw assemblies.Remove the IAC valve gasket or O-ring and discard it.To install:
Clean the old gasket material from the surface of the throttle body assembly on the thread mounted valve. On the flange-mounted valve clean the surface to ensure proper O-ring sealingInstall the valve with a new gasket or O-ring. Tighten the thread mounted assembly 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm) and tighten the flange mounted attaching screws to 28 inch. lbs. My idle on my '93 honda prelude goes up and down when in park after driving the car for a while--is there any way I can repair this w/o buying a new idle control valve?

It may be possible to remove the IAC and clean it with good results. Remove the IAC and spray it down with carb clean, making sure to clean the interior of the motor - don't be shy with the spray, but try not to shoot it into the electrical harness connector. Don't try to wipe the inside - you may damage the motor which would be bad. I would have a couple cans handy - the better you clean it out the better your chance of success. This may not work but it certainly is worth the try, as the cleaner is cheaper than a new IAC. After you've given it a good soaking, blow it out with air to dry it. re-install and try it out. Staring fluid would work well too - it's ether based which dries really fast and does a good job cleaning.

Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve OPERATION The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve controls the engine idle speed and dashpot functions. The valve is located on the side of the throttle body. This valve allows air, determined by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and controlled by a duty cycle signal, to bypass the throttle plate in order to maintain the proper idle speed.   1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. To remove the IAC valve, first disconnect the negative battery cable, then the IAC wire harness plug 89684p03.jpg
    Next, remove the two IAC valve attaching bolts . . . 89684p04.jpg
    . . . and pull the valve from the intake manifold 89684p05.jpg

  2. Disengage the wiring harness connector from the IAC valve.
  3. Remove the two retaining screws, then remove the IAC valve and discard the old gasket. To install: When installing the valve, always discard the old gasket and install it using a new one 89684p06.jpg

  4. Clean the IAC valve mounting surface on the throttle body of old gasket material.
  5. Using a new gasket, position the IAC valve on the throttle body. Install and tighten the retaining screws to 71-106 inch lbs. (8-12 Nm).
  6. Attach the wiring harness connector to the IAC valve.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.

The idle has an intermittant stumble

Your Idle Air Control (IAC) valve may be dirty with carbon, simple fix with throttle body cleaner through the IAC passageway through the throttle body. Make sure it's throttle body cleaner and not carburetor cleaner, the carb cleaner is to corrosive to the gaskets used on the throttle body.
If cleaning the IAC does not help, then it's a good chance that the IAC is to far gone and will need to be replaced.

its located on the throttle body connected to your air intake manifold where your throttle cable connects on the throttle body there is a adjustment screw connected there

Car only stalls at idle at stoplights and only every now and then what do you think?

The Idle air control valve (IAC) is dirty with carbon and needs to be cleaned. You can clean it by spraying throttle body cleaner through the IAC passage way in the throttle body. Make sure you use throttle body cleaner, the carb cleaner is to corrosive to the throttle body gaskets. Make sure you use all of the can and clean out all the carbon as much as you can in the throttle body and look for any damaged wires and vacuum line going to the throttle body. This should fix your idle problem, if problem still there, good chance the IAC needs to be replaced. Once the throttle body has been cleaned, (follow instructions on the can) you may get lots of smoke for the next 10 min, that's normal. The engine is just burning off the residual cleaner and carbon in the engine. Good luck and hope you don't have to replace the IAC.

Can it be done by a amateur? can i clean the iac motor myself?

what are you trying to clean??the pollen filter ?? this is the only servicable part you can touch without the correct A/C machine to empty the gas.This r134 is a carbon based gas and causes holes in the ozone so dont just release it and then re-fill with one of the silly cans which are banned from sale here in spain
