IF YOUR ENGINE START KNOCKING LOSE POWER.TURN OFF ITSELF YOU ARE IN TROUBLE.BUT IF COOLANT LIGHT CAME ON YOU CAUGHT IT IN TIME.YOU SHOULD BE OKAY.AS LONG AS YOU HAD COOLANT.IF YOUR ENGINE WAS BONE DRY NO COOLANT IN CAR. LEAK ALL OUT. ENGINE START KNOCKING PISTONS + RINGS. AND ENGINE BEARING IS DAMAGED.LOOK FOR ANOTHER ENGINE.

Did the engine boil over before you came to a stop? and did you let it cool on its own before putting cool water into it? If It didn't run dry and ou didn't hit or fill it with cold water, I may not have damaged anything. If yit did and you did, then a head gasket could result if not a cracked head.Sorry. hHope for the best.

Type of oil for a 2000 Dodge Durango

Recommended engine oil is 5W-30

If you have over 100,000 miles it might be advisable to use 10W-30. The reason for this would be a slightly heaver weight due to the normal wear and tear of every day driving.

Car shut off low oil

Check to make sure your oil DOES NOT look like chocolate paste, if so your engine is toast. Coolant may have leaked into the oil from a bad head gasket, the increase in viscosity shot your oil pressure up right before it spun a bearing.

Oil gauge drops all the way down and check gauge light comes on

Could be the oil pressure sender has gone bad or worse case scenario the oil pump has worn out. Check the oil presssure sender first, if it is leaking around it then that is the cause, if not then you may be looking at an oil pump. Just had a 03 ram 2500 doing the same thing and it was the sender, but that was a hemi and it had 230000 miles and a month later had to replace the oil pump for same issue.

My 99 dodge durango will run at idle ...but when i push on the gas it dies ..whats the problem ?

you need to check the fuel pressure at the reed valve with a fuel pressure gauge, you will need at least 55psi of fuel pressure to eliminate fuel as a possible cause.

Check gages light came on driving a 2002 dodge durango now engines knocking

with engine running check the oil pressure gauge. if it is not reading you will have to check the pressure with an external gauge. the sensor on a v8 is locaterd rear of the engine next to the distributor. No oil pressure will starve the engine of lubrication and cause damage resulting in the knocking .

2001 dodge durrango check gages light comes on why

When the check gages light comes on just after start up usually one or more gages have momentarily not picked up yet. Dodges are famous for this. If the light stays on for more than 10 seconds and all gages are working t could be a faulty sending unit or you may have to get the computer software reloaded at a dealer

I have a 2000 5.9l dodge durango. The upper coolant hose with the filler on it came apart. If I put a regular coolant hose on there w/o the filler and cap, just a one piece hose, could I drive it about ten...

NO ,THE PRESSURE CAP MUST BE PRESENT ,or you risk blowing either a hose or a rad if the pressure builds up too much,Make a pin hole in hose then wrap some insulating tape around it and keep the speed to 30mph and stop every couple of miles and let engine cool, sahould be a problem then till you get it fixed properly

My 2000 Durango 4.7 liter V8 starts fine, runs fine, but dies when it comes to a stop. I had my software and module redone 3 months ago and about 2 weeks ago it started shifting slow and hard. Then today...

Could be a bad catalytic converter. Have the exhaust back pressure checked. Check the fuel pressure & if possible, drive with the gauge on & see what happens when it dies. If the pressure is good, then it's not fuel. Write back if you have more issues.

Have a 2001 Dodge Durango. Temp is hot, coolant is cold. Replaced thermostat still running hot 2001 durango stuck in 4 wheel drive. 2 wheel drive blinks

If you havent already, leave the radiator cap off of your radiator while you start the vehicle. Be sure the engine is cold, you could get hurt if not because the coolant will build up pressure. If the cap is off, no pressure will build. Wait a while for the vehicle to heat up, look in the opening, and see if the coolant is flowing. If so, could be a bad fan, or gummed up radiator......if NOT your turbine on your water pump could be bad, OR, by chance, the thermostat is not working.
