The abs light is tripped by any computer-recognized problem within the abs system. a wheel sensor tends to be the most common cause of an abs light. while the light is on, the standard brakes function normally but the abs system is completely bypassed. the best way to diagnose this is to plug the vehicle into a code scanner. any decent shop can perform this service, or you can purchase a scanner at an auto parts store or online. if you do go that route, ensure that the scanner you purchase specifically can interpret abs codes

The common thing to go on those are the wheel speed sensor! part of the wheel bearing/hub assembly sensor is part of it. only way to be sure is to scan the computer. if not your working in the dark.

good luck

Abs why can't i clear codes what did I miss ?

Start by checking the connectors and replacing the wheel sensor.
It also helps to put model/year in the post, as most people don't want poke around in your profile to see what you drive.

I haven't heard much about ABS unit failures in Mk4 (99.5+) cars. In the Mk3 with the Teves 20 system, it was very common.

Codes about a bad sensor are generally not the sign of a crapping out module. Codes about a bad Pump (v64) is.

Abs light stays on and traction control stays off in my chevy impala ls the transmission is acting up in drive i took out a fuse called [trans sol] now it drives but acts up in reverse

abs, traction control, tire pressure monitor and fuel economy indicators all use a speed sencer in the wheel hubs, save yourself a lot of greaf and have a mechanic do a code read and test the sencers, i had the same issue and it messes up the whole system, i ended up replacing one hub assembly for about $190,
as for your transmission acting up, put the fuse back in and change the fluid, DO NOT HAVE THE TRANNY FLUSHED, JUST A FLUID CHANGE!!! if you want to drive another day. todays tranmissions are way more complex than they need to be and have many solinoids and sencers that can and do fail, good luck.

ABS Light ON

try checking the wires going to each wheel hub or bearing. these are for your anti lock brake system. the wire could be broke on inside of insulation too so check carefully. can check wheel sencers by unplugint each one and checking with volt meter. very low voltage ( mili volts) while you turn the wheel.
