My lights on my sterling 1989 827s dont always come on
My lights on my sterling 1989 827s come on randomly when I try to turn them on, and lately it is getting harder to get them to come on at all when I turn them on. They will also randomly shut themselves off while they are turned on. It is in both headlamps at the same time. The side lights/parking/running lights always come on. I have all other lights coming on and my blinkers and hazards work too, just not my headlights, not on low or high beam, it is like the signal to turn on just isn't reaching them, or is getting interrupted while they are on..it is not my main relays in my fuse box under the hood...I think it may be in the switches on the arm on the steering column, but I don't know, and I don't know what the proper name for this part is and how I can locate one, or a universal one that I could possibly make work, what do you think about the problem and its cause, and what parts I should be looking for and where I might find them, also, what is a good repair manual for this make, model, and year?

This is probably a bad earth connection, Try checking the connection to the rear light cluster for corrosion around the wiring plug, remove it and clean the connections, also check the bulb fittings, clean and replace bulbs into the holder. This is normally where the problem is, and could be due to water getting into the rear lights, good to check for this too.
sounds like your vehicle speed sensor is going out. it's the modern equivilent of a speedometer cable. it tells the computer how fast your going which the computer uses to determine shift points, abs function, and speedometer readings. they usually act up a bit before they go out. it confuses the computer. normally located in the extension housing at the rear of the transmission where the spedometer cable would be on an older vehicle
