Check to see if the flywheel is bent by turning it . sometimes when changing a starter or flywheel you may need shims to make sure there is the correct clearance is maintained between the starter and flywheel otherwise the teeth of the gears may not mesh properly last thing are you sure they gave you the correct flywheel, it happens, I hope this was very helpful

I got a 1998 nissan maxima se 3.0L wont start ive put new starter, solenoid, relays, and ignition sw.I used to jump solenoid now dont work just starter spins never engaging help

If the starter is working probably and is mounted correctly then you need to look at the flywheel. Sounds like teeth may be missing. The gear on the starter should move forward and turn. The forward motion allows the teeth on the starter gear to connect with the teeth on the flywheel.

What cause fiat uno 1100 starting problem

Check/ inspect. ..
the battery voltage, should be 12 volts
the battery connections, should be nice and tight and free from corrosion
the wiring to the starter motor/ solenoid,
the main earth wire attached to the car chassis.
If applicable check your alarm system or immobilizer is working correctly
if applicable and obviously take the car out of gear / drive and put in neutral. ( automatic transmissions won't start unless in the neutral position.
turn the headlights off.
be sure your turning the key all the way to to start position.
check dose the motor turn over manually (siezed)
dose the starter motor make a clicking sound? this is the solenoid trying to engage.
(try push starting/ jump starting the car)
remove starter motor and replace or recondition
hope this helps a bit.

When turn key on starter makes atinney sound does not engage flywheel

if your battery is low on charge or you have to jump it off it may already be engaged and stuck in flywheel try turning motor by hand back and forth listen if you hear it pop out then try to start with good battery if doesnt work replace starter it could be the selinoid switch but you have to pull starter anyway so just replace all of it

I just jump started a buddies car and now my car wont start 2006 mazda 3 the starter is spinning but not engaing the engine to turn over

Not because of jumping another car though. Starters have a bendix that engages the flywheel and if the starter is spinning, the solenoid is not engaging the bendix. Check and replace.

1983 chevy truck turned key want start tried jumping the starter it half cranked had starter checked i was told it was good. put everthing back together. still want start

make sure all wiring is free of corrosion . Id say the solenoid is the best bet if you know the bendix is popping up in the starter and engaging the flywheel

Starter spins but dose not turn over

If you can hear it spin(starter), but not actually hear the motor turning over or trying to crank/start..... Sounds like starter not engaging-Replace starter. Small possibility flywheel is damaged, but less likely.

1994 Ford Escort- Went out to start the engine- The starter would turn but wouldn't engage the flywheel-160,000 miles on it, so I figured it was the bendix- I replaced the whole thing-all new starter...

If you turned the flywheel with a screwdriver and the bendix engaged the flywheel, then it sounds like it could be the flywheel. There may be "teeth" missing on the flywheel, causing the bendix not to grab onto the flywheel. Have the flywheel checked. If there are "teeth" missing, then replace the flywheel. I experienced the same problem with my Nissan.

2000 kia sephia starting problem

Doesn't sound like starter is engaging fully with flywheel, is that correct? You may have to shim it a little one way or another to get it properly aligned. When starter off, did you take a look at teeth on flywheel to see if worn off perhaps? With key off, try turning engine over by hand slightly to allow for different position on flywheel and see of that works.

Starter runs but won't engage flywheel

Hello, I would make sure that your car is not one of those half year cars becuase two differn't starters may be offered for the same year of car. Also, I would check and see if your battery has enough CCA's to power your system. The only other thing is to turn your crankshaft with a breaker bar to turn your flywheel to possibly get a fresh area of teeth on it. If none of this fails it's as simple as just replacing the flywheel. If you did a bench test on the starter and the bendix engaged that is good. Buying parts from an Auto parts store does not gurantee the part is good and that the bendix engages the full distance to turn the flywheel. I would try to find a mechanic who rebuilds starters to make sure that the bendix is engaging fully. I hope this helps you!

Possible not shimmed correctly. The starter teeth have to engage correctly for the starter not to hang up. That's what probably happened & broke teeth off. You had better check your flywheel around the entire circumfrence as teeth may be missing from it as well. Starter won't engage if teeth and flywheel teeth in same spot are broken off. If the flywheel teeth are bad, it will be a spendy fix to put a new one on... Rick
