Can't find the water pump. I think it is leaking causing low coolant level car runs hot

The water pump is mounted in the center passenger side of the motor possibly inside with timing belt but if it is leaking you will see the water and coolant in that area.

I have a 98 chevy malibu and when i turn the heater on the blower works fine but the air goes from hot to cold hot to cold every couple minutes. what might be the cause of this


First thing to look at is coolant level. It sounds like the coolant pump will push coolant to the heater core and then stops pumping because it has air because to low. If coolant level is full, the vanes on the coolant pump might be spinning on the shaft, in which case you will have to replace the pump.

What cause of overheat from engine


an engine will overheat if the rad cooling fan is not working, this will have to be check to see if its the fan motor, the fan relay. low coolant level, top up coolant check for leaks. could be head gasket problem, bad water pump(impeller worn).

Truck was running hot. not leaking, but water levels were low. would that be the problem


YEP LOW COOLANT WILL CAUSE ENGINE OVER HEAT.BE SURE TO HAVE CORRECT MIXTURE 50/50 COOLANT AND WATER.TOO MUCH WATER IN COOLANT SYSTEM WILL CAUSE IT TO EVAPORATE AWAY.NEED ANTIFREEZE TO RAISE BOILING POINT.

Heater blowing cold engine overheat


First, you need to check your engine coolant level. If the level is low, the first thing to quit working is the heater. And of course if the engine is low on coolant it will overheat.

If the coolant is low then you need to check for the source of the leak, like a bad water pump, leaking hose or clamp, thermostat gasket, or just about any other gasket that seal off the cooling system.

Don't operate the vihicle if it is low on coolant, this can cause hot-spots inside the engine and can cause damage. Top it off with coolant, start it up and check for leaks.

Car is running hot I think it's my water pump .


The most likely causes of a hot running engine are the following:

1. low antifreeze level in the radiator and cooling system.
2. fan not turning on at operating temperature.
3. restrictions in the cooling system such as sediment build up.

Water pumps usually leak when they are bad, and can cause an overheat because of low coolant level.
Check whether the water pump is leaking after topping off the coolant level and running at operating temperature, and then shutting off the car's engine.

I have a 1989 Pontiac Bonneville that is running hot after water pump replacement. I found out that after replacement I should have driven it to seal the gasket. Was that too damaging or could it be...


First off you never have to drive to seal any gasket! If it did not run hot before the replacement of the pump it should not run hot now unless something is defective or improperly installed.Presure test the system for leaks first and repair any leaks before doing anything else.Be sure to make sure that the Head Gaskets are not leaking as well!

Overheating


Overheating can be caused by several things including low/no coolant, blocked/broken hose, faulty water pump, stuck thermostat. CHeck the coolant level in the over flow tank and in the radiator itself. If it's low you know you have a leak somewhere. If it's full you know the coolant isn't circulating through the system.

Let the car run until it heats up then feel the upper and lower hoses on the radiator, they should both be hot and firm when the coolant is circulating. If the top is hot and the bottom is cool and pliable then you know the coolant isn't going through. The most common cause of this is a thermostat that isn't opening. Look to make sure the water pump is operating properly, that's what circulates the water through the motor.

If you suspect a leak then you need to find where it's coming from. Check around the head/intake gaskets for signs of leakage as well as around the side tanks on the radiator and all hoses and connections.

Start with the small/obvious things first and progress from there. Good luck.

Won't blow out heat while sitting still, but will generate heat while riding along


Most likely causes of this is either low coolant level or a plugged heater core, of which, I'd lean towards the low coolant. Rarer causes would be a slipping drive belt for your water pump, or a dying water pump.

Check the coolant level in the coolant bottle and top off with a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and water if it is low. There should be markings on the side of the bottle to let you know the proper level; markings for both a cold engine and a hot engine.

If the level is low, you might want to have the vehicle checked to make sure that there isn't a leak somewhere.

My truck was running hot and when i put my heater on it was blowing cold air then it got hot and then cold


more than likely with those symptoms you are low in coolant, you have sticking thermastat, a bad radiator cap not alowing the system to pressurise, or the worse case senerio is a blown head gasket. hope this helped

Car leaking coolant


First of all ensure that your car is leaking coolant fluid, and what is dripping is not just water condensation from the air conditioner.
If you have a coolant liquid leak, it can be from one of the ducts leading to radiator , from water pump or radiator itself. Check liquid levels, and if you have a leak have the car inspected by a qualified mechanic.
A broken water pump, for example, can cause your motor to blow in few miles.
