Can i run diagnostic test on an 02 mustang gt just using the car itself? no tools?

Those tests were mostly OBD1,but not avail on all makes and models. I know where your going. Cheap doesn' t work on a high tech product like cars.

1996 cherekee 4lt cold starting idles good warms up idles rough. exhaust fums stink. fueling up spark plugs .speedo289000klm'can any one help

is the problem only on a cold engine, hot or both?
is the hot engine reaching and holding 180F or more as it must?>
its running rich
and that is misfire.
lots of causes for rich. the tests are easy in shop with tools.
  1. a full tuneup.
  2. fuel pressure to high we, use a gauge. (FPR bad?)
  3. leaking injectors.
  4. ECT failure, scan it and must read 180f, hot, if at 180f hot.?
  5. this takes 5 min work on any scan tool (real)
  6. map hose clogged. or leaking. the Map sensor must not be blocked in any way to the plenum vacuum. or it will lie and it will run real bad.
  7. on a hot engine, the 02 sensors can fail, or is good and the exhaust cracks in the header do that. on mine it did 3 times.
cracks in the exh header, there must not he any leaks in that header (or bad gaskets)
or the 02 lies. , goes to 0volts and then engine runs rich as a piggy. (my scan tool shows this is seconds, 02 flat-lined at 0v.
all cars, with 02 do that. with that issue.
02 means oxygen sensor, the front one, not the rear one.

  1. NOTE: The generic electronic module (GEM)/central timer module (CTM) must be reconfigured upon replacement. Refer to the scan tool help screen on the configuration card to program the tire size and axle ratio.
    The warning lamps are a GEM/CTM controlled system; refer to Section 419-10 .
  1. Verify the customer concern by operating the system in question.
  1. Visually inspect for the following obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.

    • Damaged wiring harness
    • Loose or corroded connections
    • Circuitry

  1. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the scan tool menu. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • check that the program card is properly installed.
    • check the connections to the vehicle.
    • check the ignition switch position.
  1. If the scan tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the New Generation STAR Tester manual.
  1. Perform the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If scan tool Tester responds with:
    • CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, refer to Section 418-00 .
    • NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for GEM/CTM, go to Pinpoint Test E.
    • SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs and perform self-test diagnostics for the GEM/CTM.
  1. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the GEM/CTM Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics.
  1. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics.

plug test light, coil packs? pressure test, check heads, valves, fuel injector? going to need a diagnostic on that one, unless you got the tools, take it to the er and get a rundown, anyone with a proper diagnostic computer should be able to do it

If you have a service engine warning light showing up on your instrument cluster go to Autozone and get a free diagnostic test done. They will give you the codes and explanation.

02 mustang gt vibration from rear under acceleration Less when coasting Thinking it's the carrier bearings but need another opinion

Pull the drive shaft & have a shop that repairs
& balances them, do the diagnostics on that
including the bearing.

Nothing to loose there

I do that with new vehicles,old vehicles,just because
they are bent & flawed from the factory

The engine and transmission in this cars drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL THE DIAGNOSIS & TESTING IS COMPLETED.

P0175 : That means your car is running rich in Bank2.

Could be your 02 sensor or your MAF sensor.

Will airbags from a 1997 mustang work on a 2000 v6 mustang and does it matter if they came from a gt or not

Only 99-02 will work on a 2000, and they show a base model airbag and a GT model airbag.

Fuel injections problems. My 2004 Ford Mustang stopped running while driving it. I changed the fuel pump and it still wouldn't start. It makes like it wants to start but it doesn't. Anything else I could...

Fords usually have have a fuel pressure test port on the fuel rail,having a fuel pressure test gauge is needed because a failing pump can still deliver fuel to the rail but not at the specified pressure so simply pressing the valve to see if fuel is present may tell you something but not answer the question plus it can be dangerous to expell fuel on the engine due to possible fire hazard,that would be step one.Do you have spark and injector signal and is your check engine light on?You probably going to need some diagnostic tools,It might be cheaper to pay a shop than to throw parts at it until it runs..Do you have access to tools?
