If they won't reset hen there are hard faults present in the system, you must repair the faults and then the light will reset.

Have your car scanned for trouble codes and repair as necessary. More than likely you have a misfire due to worn ignition components: spark plugs, wires, etc.

Cylinder 3 misfire code on 2001 Volvo s80. Non turbo. Where is it located? What could it be? And what caused it.

Hello,
Checking fuel injection system, ignition system and components
In the event of diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), that affect camshaft control or camshaft reset valve, these must be fault-traced first.
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) indicates which cylinder has misfired: ECM3533

Check that engine oil level is correct.
Check the spark plugs, search for damage in the insulation and other damage.
Check ignition spark.
Check the function of the crankcase ventilation.
Checking fuel and residual pressure. Checking fuel and residual pressures See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust\Engine\Fuel Pressure\Testing and Inspection\Checking Fuel and Residual Pressures
Check if there is any air leakage. Check for air leaks in the intake system See: Powertrain Management\Fuel Delivery and Air Induction\Testing and Inspection\Air Leaks in the Intake System, Checking
Check that the engine seals tight. Compression test See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust\Engine\Compression Check\Testing and Inspection\Compression Test
Check flywheel for damage. I have also seen these ECU's fail.
Finally, one thing you can try is called a "hard reset" by disconnecting both battery cables and hold them together for about 3 to 5 minutes, not letting them touch anything else. After this hook them back up and take it for a test drive about 10 miles. The adaptive memory may reset things back to normal. Please advise

Turn off check engine light

You cant just turn check engine light off. You have to hook car up to a code reader or scan tool and read trouble codes. Repair trouble codes then erase codes and if problem was repaired check engine light will turn off.

Why do the check engine light stay on? volvo 2000 S70

Your engine's computer is seeing data from the engine that it considers out of the normal on your vehicle. Any automotive repair shop will be able to scan the computer for the trouble code for you. Autozone will scan the code for free, however, you will still need to bring the trouble code print-out to a well qualified technician to be able to tell you what the potential problem may be. These codes can indicate anything from a loose gas cap to random misfire in the engine.

The shift up button is flashing. Unsure how to make it stop

This has happened twice in our 2000 V40. There is a transmission sensor that goes wonky, or possibly gets a bad connection. You'll probably get engine codes P1618 (Transmission code waiting) and P0705 the actual transmission code saying there's trouble.

Both times I was able to reset the sensor by shifting repeatedly with the engine off and the key in various positions. Sorry I can't be more specific. There were directions on the net and I followed them the first time. The second time I wasn't able to find them and just shifted and keyed for 5 minutes and it was fixed.

Ours goes bad when it rains, so I'm thinking it's a bad connection.

My check engine light is on S70 Volvo 1998.

You will need to have your trouble codes pulled in order to determine what the problem is. If you live here in the states, go to your local Auto Zone or Advance Auto and ask them to check your car for trouble codes, they will do this free of charge, write the codes down and reply back. We can begin to diagnose at that point.

I have a 1996 volvo 960 and the check engine light is on. when driving, it flashes then stops then flashes again until I get up to around 60 mph.

Your vehicle’s computer system has self-testing capability. When the computer senses that there is a problem with one of the components or sensors it stores the correspondent trouble code(s) in its memory and lights up the "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light to tell you that there is a problem and you need to diagnosed and repaired it. The list of possible codes number in the hundreds. The code itself doesn't tell exactly what component is defective - it only indicates where to look, or what engine parameter is out of normal range. You or a technician will have to perform further testing to pinpoint cause and the proper repair. The light flashing when you are driving indicates a more serious problem that should be fix right away or more problems can occur.
