Question about Cadillac CTS

1 Answer

My 2005 cadillac cts doesnt start, the keys is locked in the ignition, when i turn the key it doesnt do anything. if i take the negative terminal off the battery and tap it to the negative side of the batt about 3 times then i connect it to the batt, and the cars then starts.then im able to shutt off and take the key out of the ignition. sometimes when i try to start again it starts but 99% of the time after leaving it off for more than a day the car doesnt start. the car was in an accident front end damage everything got fix except this problem i have now.

in order for the car to start i take the negative terminal off the battery, with out screwing the terminal back on i tap it against the neg side off battery about 3 times on the last tap i screw the terminal back on to the batt meanwhile the key is in the ignition with koeo. then the car starts, if i shutt off car and comeback the nextday it doesnt start. But when i shut it off the car if i leave the keys in the ignition and come back the next day and try to start i doesnt start and the key wont come out, then i have to do the batt thing to get it started then im able to take the key out when i shutt it off.

I need a little clarification.. You stated wen you take off the neg terminal and "tap" it to the neg side or the batt 3 times then connect it to the battery it starts (i don't really understand what that part is). Also you say when you disconnect the battery the car will shut off and you can remove the key to be removed from the igniton. Does it not come out when the battery is disconnected?? If you can send me more info on this I can try an assist you.... Also have you consulted your collision person with these concerns as they should have been covered in your repair??

I understand a little better now. Tapping the battery terminal on the battery doesn't do anything to start the car (is it corroded) if its corroded could cause a bad connection to and not start the car but if not corroded make sure the terminal is tight to the battery post and the cable is not loose that connect to the battery post end. If either is loose/corroded you will not get enough juice to start the car. But as far as the key, they;re is a chip inside the key that tells the computer to start the car and that key could be damaged. If you have a spare try the other spare to see if it works better. Also the key not coming out of the ignition is not a power/battery issue. If the car is not fully in park the key will not remove from the igntion (does the selector line up in each gear, park, neutral reverse etc?). Its a safety issue tomake sure you dont leave the car is drive or neutral and walk away. make sure the gear selector is in park (that could have been damaged in the crash also and overlooked repairing). If this was an insurance job I would recommend going back to the collision shop to have them repair it (call your insurance company in they refuse to fix it). But if it is a do it your self job you will have to check these things and make sure they are not broken/loose.

My 2005 cadillac cts turns on but has the car lock symbol on along with the traction control light and the temp and gas gauges arent working. Then when I try to turn my key off it doesnt release my key....

try unhooking you're positive battery cable wile the car is running then turn ignition off and put positive cable back on. if the problem is electrical this should reset it. could also be a fuse or a splayed wire.

My key is stuck in the ignition of my 2006 cadillac cts

2005 CTS 3.6 Dead battery, key stuck, service anti theft and nothing happens when you turn key, Ttried everything, ECM reset, key memory reset, charged battery to 12.7 volts, locked door w remote and opened w key, anyway you get the idea. After 3 days of online reading and trying, THIS IS WHAT WORKED, 1. put key into on position 2. removed sarter relay from front fuse panel 3. jumped 1st pin closest to fender and passenger seat with pin that is closest to motor and front fender. I used a paper clip and just made contact long enough for car to start. ran car for five minutes and took key out and everything went back to normal. then I took car to advance auto parts to have engine light reset. if car does not go back to normal you have ECM (car computer) failure. video on YouTube under "no crank, no start"

I have a 2005 Cadillac cts and I bought a new battery and now I have to take the battery off and on to get it started what do need to do its something to do with the alarm or security system the doors lock...

Welcome to

Sounds like one of the small wires comming from the ignition lock cylinder has broken in 2 and you will need to replace the ignition lock cylinder and keys. If you don't care if the special key starts the car then all you have to do is measure the key resistor and go to radio shack and buy a resistor close to the same reading and cut the wire at the bottom of the steering column and wire the resistor in place. Then the engine will start up

Thank you for using

Like others, my key is stuck in the ignition of my cadillac CTS. Car starts and turns off but the ignition will not turn back beyond the accessory possition and the battery has died.

there is a switch in shifter that lets ign. turn back when in park. switch does not come seperate. shifter replacement is req. there is a plug in steering column that can be removed then you put a small screw driver in to push on override button to allow key to turn back. it is located below key.

2005 cadillac cts key wont turn to on position

This can be the immobilizer at work or at fault mode.

If you have ON-STAR they may fix you up in few minutes.

Disconnect the battery for 3-4 minutes.

TAPE the 2nd key NEAR the ignition key area.

Reconnection the negative cable.

Try to get the key out of the ign.

PUT THE "BAD"/questionable key far away from the steering lock area.

Test the 2nd key.

Make sure the steering does not stick.

Drive right to a shop.
