I assume you're refering to the MIL or "Check engine" light. Take your car to an Advance Auto Parts. Auto Zone, or other regional auto parts store and ask them to read the OBDII error code stored in your car's computer. If you had a tank of bad gas, chances are you should replace your fuel filter too. After you get the code, post it here and one of the good guys on this site will try to help.

The first thing that I would do if I suspected that I got bad gas, other than the very smart thing you did, which was putting in a better grade of gas, is to purchase some sort of additive like HEET to try and dry out any water that was in the gas. The next thing would be to err on the side of caution and take the car to an autoparts store and have them scan the computer for fault codes. Most parts store will do the scan for free. Getting the codes will show anything that the computer has noted, which can eliminate alot of speculation. One other thing that I would suspect would be that the fuel filter has been clogged with impurities from the bad gas and may need changed. These are some things to consider. Really sorry for your trouble and I hope this helped. Best wishes.

Engine knocks at start sometimes

Sounds like bad gas. Let your gas go down to almost empty and buy an additive like gum out. Put the additive in your gas tank and then put the reccomended amount of gas listed on the back of the bottle into the tank. clean it this same way two times and then put a better grade of gas into your car for a week or two and see if that stops the knocking noises.

Starts up then dies sometimes idles but sounds like **** smells like gas in the cab real bad it happen when i was going down the road it was running fine then i was going up a hill and gave it a little gas...

Better have it scanned for codes ... could be anything from a bad 02 sensor to a plugged catalytic. Make sure you have a look around for a leaking fuel line as well.

Just put 60 worth of gas in my truck and now its puttering and trying to die out... what is the issue

It sounds like you got some bad gas or water in the gas. Pick up a can or two of dry gas and put it in the tank. When you get down to half a tank add some mid-grade or premium gas to help boost the octane.
Try to go to stations that sell a lot of gas that way the gas is fresh and doesn't usually get much of a chance to get water in it.

Check engine light blinks

My suggestion is to get the fault codes stored in the car's ecu read by a VW approved garage. That will tell them what "was" wrong. Once a fault has occurred the check engine light will probably stay on until the warning has been cancelled using VW software.
As for the grade of gas used in the car, the users manual will tell you that - it might also be written inside the filler cap.

I wouldn't recommend further use of "engine cleaner" - it might do more harm than good.

Go get the codes read and then you'll know for sure.

Hope this helps. D
